If you get stitches, will you have a scar for the rest of your life?
I might have to get a small surgery in a few months and the doctor will make some small cuts. Then they are going to give me stitches to wear and I think they will be on for a few days to maybe a week. My question is after they take the stitches out, will I have the scars for my whole life or will the scars eventually heal if I take care of them properly? ♥ Thanks for your help! =)

- there are creams that help scars fade...
- the scars will always be there but you can over time cover them with a tan and cocoa butter
- You will have scars. They fade with time and they may be really small, but they will be there. Try rubbing Mederma on them after they've healed. it's over the counter and it is supposed to help make scars less noticeable. Good luck with your surgery!
- There might be some everlasting scars, you might want to get some medicine that will help make them go away. Good luck with your surgery.
- you would be the best judge. Do you scar easily? Do you have many scars from cuts in the past? It is likely your medical cut will be similar. Also as said above you can get creams to reduce the effects. If you are worried discuss it with your doctor. You have a right to ask these things as the patient.
- you will always have the scars but how you take care of your scars will determine how noticeable they really are... so use an antibiotic oitment while the stiches are still in and after they are removed use vitaman E cream .. it helps take some visibility away from scars and stretch marks
- It depends on the kind of surgery you have. Many surgeries these days are done a few small pokes, and a tube with a camera on the end, leaving very small scars. You can always apply aloe vera or something like that, but scars are scars and they generally never go away. I have a ten inch scar across my abdomen from a surgery, I still wear a bikini, vanity is not an issue for me.
- to be honest i wouldnt worry about it if the stitches are used they may be dissolvable ones and then u dont need to get them pulled out afta but most scars these days leaves a tiny line an pin prick scars i had a kidney out when i was six an that looks like a shark attack compared to todays scars
- it would depend if your doctor is good in stitches. i have a friend who had breast implants and you could hardly see her scar. you need to also consider if your "keloidal".
- the chances are that u probably will have a scar there for ever but it depends on the cut, if its a big cut ull have a big scar and if u have a small cut it will be a very small scar, if its small like u said, dont be to worried about it. best of wishes that i goes well.
- you'll always have the scars but they will fade. putting Vit. E on helps it fade and there are some creams that also help.
- I don't know much about scars, but I had surgery and staples several years ago. My doctor told me to massage where the incisions had been made and not let the area into the sun for a while. I didn't massage the incisions because it felt funny for both my finger and the site and I didn't really care because it was from an ankle fracture so it's not really noticeable. I think damaged and undamaged tissue tan or absorb sunlight differently and the effects/differences are more noticeable and long-lasting. Maybe it'll work? Hope it helps!
