Stitches

How many stitches in width do I need to knit a baby blanket on a 14" needle?

I have about 170 stitches on a 14" knitting needle. Do I need any more to make a decent width for a baby blanket? How long in width may it be after I am finished knitting and it is removed from the needle?

  1. It will depend on the thickness of your yarn and the gauge of the needle although it sounds a lot of stitches.. I suggest you look at patterns on the following sites to get a better idea of size as most of them have pictures: http://www.knittingpatterncentral.com/directory/baby_blankets.php http://www.knittingonthenet.com/babyblankets.htm http://home.howstuffworks.com/free-knitting-patterns-for-baby-blankets.htm Hope this helps. Good luck.
  2. Look at the wrapper that is on the yarn. It will give you how many stitches, per inch, on the needle size they recommended. Divide 170 by that number. That will give you the number of inches you will get. Then decide if that's the size you want.
