Stitches

Is single-stitch crochet supposed to curl at the ends?

I typically make scarves, and I always get curlage at all four corners. Am I crocheting too tight? Will loosening my gage make a difference?

  1. Yes you are correct. You have to loosen your stitches.
  2. You could losen up but I think It will still curl! Try switching stitches from double to single..every other row.. Should be a nice warm scarf.
  3. Try going up a hook size and doing a double crochet every 2nd or 3rd row and that should loosen things up a bit. When you make your starting chain, make sure it is loose. Mary
  4. Mine always curls and its frustrating I find after i finish I dampen just dampen my scarf then iron with a warm iron and it flattens it out OK
  5. Stitches curl ... sometimes loosening helps... sometimes yarn quality will make a difference (remember yarn is twisted so you're just twisting it more). It's why most patterns mention blocking. It's basically dampening and laying out flat to dry, sometimes pinning in place ... it's where you'd do shaping on some items of unusual shape. Depending on the yarn you could use a steam setting on an iron and go over lightly (barely touching), do not press down or you will flatten or burn your work!!!
