I have a cut on the top of my foot from a rock in the ocean. i got 3 stitches. should i keep the cut covered?
i have had the cut covered for 5 days. should i continue to keep it covered or should i let it air out. I am taking antibiotics for the cut and have been putting ointment on it for the last two days.

- It is probably a good idea to keep it covered for a while longer. You should be getting the stitches removed soon. When you do, if the skin is healed and intact, you shouldn't have to cover it anymore.
- as long as your hair stays out of the cut, I think it could go uncovered.
- let it get some air. I cut my thumb wide open an long time ago giving it air was the best thing that I could have done. I help it heal quicker if you ask me. So air it out and see the magic.
- keep it covered until you get the stitches out. stitches are keeping it together, but having it covered stops anything from getting into the wound. make sure it is clean and covere until you get the stitched out, then speak to your doctor about whether you need to keep it covered after wards.
- ~~~Your doctor should give you directions for aftercare. Usually stitches need open air and to be kept dry. I would call your doctor be on the safe side.~~~
- Soap and water, keep it dry and clean. If it's gonna get dirty or wet cover it up. If not keept it clean and dry. An occasional smear of antibiotic will speed healing. A slick tight bandage or medical tape will limit scarring.
- I would cover it during the day and leave it uncovered a night.
