joining yarn and weaving ends in crochet?

Baby blanket: crochet with 3 strands using a size Q hook for quickness. How do I join additional balls and weave in the ends as it is kind of loosley stitched? I am afraid the ends will work their way out. Any way to tie them on or together? Adult Vest: Using a real heavy cotton yarn, how do I hide the tails so they can't be seen since it so thick? great answers! Super video!

  1. With the baby blanket do a sc all around the sides as if you try to weave it in it will make it even bulkier With the vest, I lose some of the yarn but when I get close to the end of the skein I stop at the end of the row and cover it up when I sew the front and back together.
  2. TIE TWO YARNS TOGETHER Make a slip knot on hook, pull next yarn end through and tighten slip knot on the yarn, pull both yarns and snug the knot until they are secure. SELECT THE PLACE WHERE YARN ENDS WILL BE With yarn ends near cluster stitches or border trim so that ends can be hidden and secured, heavy ends may be split, half going one way, the other half another way, to work over them in that direction.
  3. With the baby blanket, I would weave in the ends separately, going different directions. Be sure and leave long ends (about eight to ten inches) to weave in. That way, you don't have to worry so much about them coming loose. With the vest, I would still weave the ends in the way I normally do. Here's a video that shows some really good techniques for weaving in ends. http://www.nexstitch.com/v_weave_ends.html
  4. I often make blankets that use multiple strands of yarn and I always just weave in the ends as usual. I haven't had trouble with the ends coming out. Never tie knots in your yarn--they will show up and make hard little knots in your project. Plus you will still have to weave in the ends.
