Stitches

I need help with a star baby blanket crochet pattern.?

So I am starting this pattern again http://www.angelfire.com/va3/heartfeltangels/littlestarafghan.html I tore it out once and am abut to again It's round 3 I have the issue with "Round 3: Sl st in next st, ch 3, 1 dc in next dc, shell, *dc in next 2 dc, sk 2 dc, 2 dc, shell. Repeat from * to 5th point. 2 dc, sl st in 3rd ch of beginning ch to join. (50 dc/5 ch2 spaces) " So after I sl st into the chain from last roundI sl st into the next dc right? Then I chain 3 and after that I dc in the VERY NEXT dc right? After doing that I shell into the next dc??? That's when I start the dc 2 sk 2 then shell process right? I think this is where I lost it last time. Can anyone help??

  1. yes, i think you understand it. slip in the very next st, ch 3, dc in next dc, work a shell, *dc in next 2 dc, sk 2 dc, dc in next 2 dc, work shell in next st.* then just start again in the next stitch with the *dc in next 2 dc....* **typically you would skip a stitch before and after the shell... maybe the pattern doesn't tell you that part?** i would also recommend that you count your stitches just to make sure you have the correct number to begin with.
  2. Very pretty blanket . . . anyways . . . yes, I think you've explained it the way it's written . . . where the shell is basically a point to the star. Sometimes I think I tear apart alot in the beginning of the pattern, at least until it gets itself large enough that you can follow along what you already have.
