I am crocheting a baby blanket in zig zag form. Calls for chain of 155. How do I increase size for larger?
Since it is ripple design, has increase & decrease, double & triple crochet I don't know how to increase it to measure for a larger child. Calls for beginning chain of 155 & I would like it to be 1/2 size larger.

- You have a few options here. 1: You can just make a swatch. To do this, chain a starting chain of 50 or so and just follow the pattern. You will probably have some left over chains, but that's okay. The point is that after you get a couple of rows into it, you should be able to see exactly how many stitches you need for each "point" (or ripple). Go from the lowest point of the ripple to the highest, then back to the lowest. That should tell you how many chains you need. Make sure you count the chains you are supposed to skip. 2: Look at this website: http://ledzeplisa.blogspot.com/2005/10/how-to-calculate-pattern-multiples.html This is the more complex way to do it, but if you like math, go for it! Just be aware that sometimes the pattern multiple doesn't start with the first row--sometimes it's a couple of rows into it. 3: Just wing it. Chain as many as you want. Since you want an afghan that's about 1 and a 1/2 times the size of the pattern, chain a starting chain of 240 (or however many you want). Follow the pattern, leaving the chains that are left over after the first row unworked. Don't follow the pattern to the end of the chain--follow the pattern exactly as it says, repeating until you get to a point where you don't have enough chains to repeat it again. When you are a couple of rows into it, simply take a needle and undo the slip knot and it will unravel the chains that haven't been worked into. I have tried this and it works. ~Happy Crocheting!~
- What I would try is crocheting a chain of 233 stitches and work the pattern to make sure it comes out the way you want it. If this doesn't work, there are a ton of ripple afghan patterns out there that may work for you.
- I agree with hazeleye......try beginning chain of 233 and work 1-2 rows to see if it works out to the pattern. Good Luck.
- Hello, Since you want to add 1/2 a size to your afghan add that many plus a few more chains and start as the pattern says. You will have more repeats per row. Just make sure that the end is the same as the pattern you are following. Any extra chains can be hidden in the border if there is one or just sewn into the edge.
