  2. 2 large rolls of yarn. Start by making a simple line, slip stitch and add each time around, until you get the desired width and length. I do patterns in my head and I admit, I'm a bit weird.... I finished four this week and donated them to a Charitable organization for their babies. Happy Holidays.
  3. Well, I'm a beginner, and a 3x3 blanket took me about a week (although I didn't do much else besides crochet that week). I really couldn't tell you how many hours I spent on it. How much yarn all depends on your needle size, yarn weight, and stitch ( I was using a small needle and sport weight baby yarn, so I used about 4 skeins) I would suggest possibly doing a granny square blanket. Its a really easy pattern to learn and it goes really fast. You can make a bunch of squares and sew them together, or just do one big square (thats what I normally do). If you aren't sure about how much yarn, you can buy yarns that don't have a dye lot (carron doesn't...and their yarn is cheap and very soft) and buy more if you need it. I would say start out with at least 4 normal size skeins. heres a link for a granny square pattern, if you don't already know it: http://www.crochetcabana.com/tutorials/granny_square.htm If you can find a pattern( if you do a google search, a lot of free sites will pop up, and pattern books generally aren't too expensive if you have to buy one) it should tell you how much yarn you will need on it.
  4. Check out the granny square blanket at http://cache.lionbrand.com/pattern/70131AD.html With a granny square, you can make the blanket any size you want and any color, solid or multiple colors. I've been crocheting many years so it usually takes me about a week to complete a blanket (approximately) working a couple hours a night. With medium weight yarn you will need about 16 ounces to make a 36 inch square. The wavey look you are getting may be due to your tension. When you begin the chain stitches make sure they are loose. Using a larger hook just for the beginning chain may help.
