What are the best fibers for baby blankets?
What are the best fibers for knitting or crocheting a baby blanket? Acrylic, wool, blends?

- Actually, cotton or wool is the best for babies/children due to the fire hazards. Acrylics and man made fibers tend to melt in a fire and can adhere to the skin. That is why pajamas and sleepers for babies are made in special fabrics that are fire retardant. Good luck in your search.
- I would say cotton. It's very soft to the touch and wool can tend to be scratchy. If wool itches adults, imagine how uncomfortable it is to a baby.
- Acrylic yarn is easy to care for, basic wash and dry, no worries of fading. The fibers tend to be soft and relatively inexpensive when compared to wool or some "organic" cottons.
- something soft and comfortable, but that doesn't get hot if you lay on it for awhile. Natural fibers if possible. Machine washable and doesn't hold stains easily.
- Acrylic IS easy to care for and inexpensive but does pose a fire hazard. Natural fibers are softest for baby skin - cotton, wool ... or for the more extravagant, how about a silk-cashmere blend? Or for slightly less 'splurge', a bamboo/ cotton blend? They feel divinely soft!
