- Yes but it is difficult to explain - you will need to practice a bit to get it right but when you do it will seem really easy. What you do is while you are knitting you knit the stitch but instead of dropping the last loop off the needle you leave it there and knit into that as well. Here I did manage to find some sites to help - maybe they can explain it better than me. http://www.learn2knit.co.uk/knitting/increasing.php http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t0qU4wGEYDs
- I'm not sure if your question is just about how to cast on stitches, or if you're asking how to cast on additional stitches while knitting into existing stitches. Either way, http://www.knittinghelp.com/ has really useful instructions - including video tutorials - for lots of different knitting techniques. If you're trying to learn to cast on, try the video for the long tail cast-on. I watched it over and over until it clicked.
- here is how you do the long tail cast on. http://www.knittinghelp.com/videos/cast-on its the first one on top.
- I use the long tail thumb method. You wrap the yarn around your left thumb while the needle is in your right hand and knit the stitch off your thumb. The kink to see the video is http://www.knittinghelp.com/videos/cast-on here, the second one from the top. It says "Alternative Method". I've always found that one to be the easiest for me. If you're needing to cast on more stitches after knitting say 15 stitches and you need to add 15 more to your needle so they're not worked in, but beside, I use the "backward-loop" method, which is on that same page. If however, you're looking to increase in your work, then the M1L (or M1F) is the best for increasing without creating a hole in your work. That can be seen here http://www.knittinghelp.com/videos/increases on your right hand side.
