what is an easy hand stitch that is strong?

I have to sew extra length onto ties for a crib bumper on one piece. I want something that is nice and strong but kind of easy. If you just know a name I can google how to do it Thank you!

1. a whip stitch is very strong. That's simply going down into the fabric over and over - it leaves a welted edge.
2. Use Waxed Dental floss to sew the ties on (not a joke ) , it works really well ;)))
