Has anyone learned to crochet from a book or online?
What is the best way to learn if taking a class or having someone teach you is not an option? which is the best book?

- I learned from a book. I get a lot of things on line, but I think when it comes to learning to crochet I would buy a very basic beginners book. It will be easier to refer to a book often. Also, you can take yarn, a hook, and the book anywhere with you.
- There are also some really good DVDs available (JoAnne ETC or Michael's have them) if you are a visual learner...
- I suggest you look at several books in the store and find one that has clear pictures and descriptions. Also, many craft stores have classes in the store.
- I learned from a book. It's not very hard, especially if the book has good pictures. I suggest Debbie Stoller's "Stitch and B*tch Crochet, The Happy Hooker." I know, it has a really irreverent title. :) But it also has really great instructions, and a ton of really nice easy projects, too.
- If you can not get some one to teach you or take a class then maybe out of a book but I would suggest to try to learn it online first then go to the book a video would be better to learn from then a book.
- I am using the internet to teach my boyfriend as he is left handed and I am not. He is picking it up alright. You might try pattern central. they have a free tutorial with pics.
- I had trouble getting anyone to help me learn to crochet. I am not good at watching a person do something. I purchased a child's crochet book ( sorry I don't remember the title) Just go to a local craft store and by a child's book or kit . I know you are not a kid BUT the children's versions usually have the SIMPLEST directions and EASY projects to get you started. After you learn the basics and PRACTICE A LOT you can go to on line sites and learn more. Getting the basics down is the hard part .. with practice you will progress nicely.
- Try these they are free, and online http://www.anniesattic.com/ http://www.dmc.com/majic/pageServer/0o01010069/en/Crochet-guide.html
