- Have you tried your local library? Our library has a decent selection of pattern books and you can usually find some great ideas. Keep your eye on ebay. You can often find stitchers getting rid of their stash and very low prices, and there's usually a few PM auctions going on. http://cgi.ebay.com/Lot-of-9-Precious-Moments-Cross-Stitch-Books-NEW_W0QQitemZ230115766457QQihZ013QQcategoryZ146348QQcmdZViewItem I'd recommend 123 Stitch as a good webstore - their prices are pretty competitive, and if you're looking for a special piece, this is a good site to go to: http://www.123stitch.com/precious.html Here are some free patterns: http://www.gloria-pat.com/resources/pm_angel.html http://www.gloria-pat.com/resources/opteddybear.html http://www.gloria-pat.com/resources/patriotic_freebies.html http://www.gloria-pat.com/resources/free_charts_toc.html
- precious moments are copyrighted designs, anyone giving them freely without permission would be breaking the law. http://www.patternsonline.com offers one for free when you download their pattern viewer. They also have individual patterns for sale at minimal cost. You could get one pattern at a time and only spend a small amount of money. They don't charge shipping or any extra costs.
- Check your local Hobby Lobby - last time I was in our store (within 2 weeks) in the clearance stitching stuff was 2005 & 2006 Precious Moments calendars (12 patterns). I don't remember the exact price but I'm thinking around $2 each. There were some beautiful designs on each.
- Other answers are more comprehensive, so I thought I'd mention that Teresa Wentzler offers a number of freebies on her website. These are mostly small pieces meant to introduce people to her style. She is known for her sophisticated colorwork and complex designs. She produces some of the most complicated patterns on the market. (I own the mermaid kit. I take it out and look at it every once in awhile. :-D) Some day I'd love to make the freebie Renaissance Bookmark. Her freebies are a good way to decide if you have the patience for her larger pieces. DMC also provides quite a few nice designs for free. They are one of the biggest producers of embroidery floss. Many are quite sophisticated - these two resources would keep you busy for quite awhile with a lot of high quality designs.
