Know of great knitting/yarn shops in Boston area?

Spending a week outside of Boston (in Waltham) in July. My kids will be in camps all day and I want to do something I can't do in Boston with them - explore yarn shops and textile museums. Any suggestions? I already did an Internet search, but that mostly tells where the shops are, not which ones are recommended by knitters. I want to know what people think are the best shops. Thanks!

  1. do a google search such as knitting/yarn stores/boston.
  2. Come down to the Cape- Lady Bug in Dennis on 6A and Adventures in Knitting on rt 28 in Harwich Port.
  3. Windsor Button (www.windsorbutton.com) in Downtown Crossing has a great selection of both yarns and books and even though they are traditionally a button shop many of the people that work there are knitters who are super helpful. Also, if you have the opportunity to visit the Creative Warehouse (www.512design.com) in Needham I highly suggest it. It's a small places that's off the beaten path. The appeal is that they put all of their sale yarn into huge piles that you literally have to dive into...it's the most fun a knitter can have stocking up their stash.
  4. WEBS! (www.yarn.com) They have incredible sales, and I have heard stories (that seem mythical and legendary) about their back room.
