Stitches

How many crocheters do you know that has the skill to crochet the project from the picture alone?

My mother was such a crocheter, the picture in the magazine was enough for her. She was very poor at trying to read instructions. I learned as a teen and taught my mom many things. I not only acquired this skill from her to work from pictures, but I can read any type instructions, also put any type project in to any type of art and design most anything. I hope we are amoung millions, but no one can know, if they do not ask.

  1. My mum can do this, and with sewing projects as well. She could take her own coat, and cut it down to make coats for me or my brother without a pattern insert. Very clever indeed!
  2. .I have crocheted for years, but, honestly, the only people that I believe could do that are ones who designs patterns. It would truly be a gift.
  3. Are you talking about a picture of the finished project or the picture instructions? I have done both. I was first taught to read and understand the written instructions, then moved on to the picture instructions. I like picture instructions better because I have come across many mistakes in the written instructions.
  4. my mom can ....its a great talent!!!
  5. With some things I can figure it out. I've done many different styles of hats and even some afgans this way. As for picture instructions someone mentioned, I use them a lot too. I do think you have a gift tho. My Great-Grandmother was a concert pianist but couldn't read a note of music. She played everything by ear. She only had to hear it once and she could play it. I wish I had that talent. Use you gift wisely. It could also come in handy for making money :)
  6. I crochet from the instructions and from pictures and write patterns for items sent to me for this service by great aunts and others. I can design patterns as well. With all the conflicting rules and regulations concerning crochet on copyright infringements, I started designing my own stuff several years ago. That way I am not infringing on anyone's possible copyright attitudes. But there is nothing new under the sun in the way stitches and patterns are put together! So who is to say which came first, the chicken or the egg, my pattern or maybe Annie's Attic pattern! Do not post original patterns on the internet, ever!! They will be stolen by unscrupulous vultures who scan the net continuously to find more to copyright in their name!
  7. Interesting, I have created my own version by looking at a picture, found mistakes in printed patterns, tweaked projects to look nicer, I seldom use the suggested yarns for a project(too boring) I love looking at patterns on the web to see what others are creating. It is so satisfying to create and hone ones skills. I enjoy compliments on my work.:) I try to "give back" by crocheting for charities. That's what life is all about. I LOVE TO CROCHET!
  8. I learned how to crochet when I was 7 years old. I can do almost anything with crocheting. I do not need a pattern all I need is a pichure. I taught myself how to read the patterns. I have not come across one that I can not read. I like doing my own creations though. Check out the wedding dress I made. It took forever seems like. My arms don't work like they use to. http://loveofcrochet.tripod.com
  9. I can. I don't know of anyone else who can but it is very easy to look at a picture and make something. I have done that lots of times.
  10. I knew a German lady who could not read the English patterns but the stuff she could turn out! I was humbled by her skills. My hat is off to anyone who can look at something and recreate it. I need instructions...with pictures....
  11. Unfortunately, I do not know any crocheters. Rats! Imagine, someone to help teah you to improve your skills. I cannot even begin to imagine how to make something other than a scarf or scarf shaped itme without instructions. You have an amazing talent. People who can do that with anything are what is called "gifted". Enjoy your git and be sure to share it with others. It takes a lot of encouragement for most people to be able to really increase their skills. This kind of encouragement comes from others that have talent. I wish you were closer. I would love to have someone to help me progress! congratulations on your gift!
  12. I can and I know others who can as well. Some people are visual learners others can read and figure it out and still others can work it out from hearing it described. They are rarer than visual learners though. I couldn't do it just from a picture for a long time ,but I kind of taught myself, as patterns I could afford and understand were difficult to come by where I lived. These days although I still buy patterns I rarely use them as I can make just about anything I want from a basic drawing.
