How did i my knit stitch suddenly turn into purl on DPN?

I am trying to knit a hat in the round for the first time and I was happily knitting away with the knit stitch on the outside when suddenly i looked down and my knitting was now suddenly purling! I was still doing the knit stitch- what am i doing wrong???? Thanks!!! Could i be insterting the needle in the wrong spot?

  1. The purl is just the reverse of a knit. Did you begin to knit in a different way, or hold the yarn differently? Or are you maybe just looking at the inside of your hat? .
  2. Usually your piece of knitting has gotten turned inside out. Stick the hat through the needles and push it down through the center.
  3. i had the same problem when i started a couple of years ago. what must of happened was that you started purling by mistake. you can look at this site to make sure that your knitting not purling. what you could have done by accident was that instead of inserting your needle from right to left you probably inserted it from left to right by mistake. dont worry just remember inserting the needle from right to left is knitting and left to right is purling or could have turn your project inside out which happens to me sometimes. http://learntoknit.lionbrand.com/cgi-bin/faq-search.cgi?store=/stores/eyarn&faqKey=84
  4. You ar knitting on the inside rather than the outside of the hat. Turn it inside out and you'll be knitting on the outside again.
  5. Go to a local yarn shop, they'll sort you out. It should be really quick, they'll just look and see what's going on. Don't be shy.
  6. You've definitely turned the work inside out by mistake!
