Stitches

What does the saying " a stitch in time makes nine" mean?

Public Comments

  1. "A stitch in time saves nine" It means that stitching something (a tear in your shirt) in time (before it gets bigger) will save you nine stitches after it gets bigger. It presents the idea that procrastination is really counterproductive.
  2. It's about sewing. One stitch when the seam starts to pull apart will save nine stitches later on, after the rip has further developed. It means that little preventative measures now will save a lot of trouble later.
  3. Do it now or re-do it later.
  4. If you do this little thing now, it can prevent a bigger thing later
  5. If you take care of a problem when you first notice it, it will be easier to do than later when the thing needs more stitches. A few minutes now to avoid having a big problem is what it refers to.
  6. No that is incorrect .the stitch in time is supposed to SAVE you from putting in nine stitches instead of just one.Using stitching terms to bring home the message that procrastination is a disadvantage ,so better attend to the job in hand, straight away.
