Stitches

How long does it take the vet when you go back to have the stitches removed from a cat after surgery?

  1. About ten seconds, if you are talking about spaying.
  2. its done really quick, all they do is snip the stickes out.
  3. I'm not certain about stitches specifically, but for staples it's pretty quick. My cat had knee surgery. We spent more time asking the vet a series of questions about the next stage of the cat's recovery than it took to have the staples removed. While we were waiting we saw another cat go in to have it's staples removed and it was back in a few minutes too.
  4. I would say you will be in the exam room for about 5 minutes. The vet will examine the surgical site for any problems and if there are none, snip the stitches and pull them out. This will not hurt kitty, the worst for her is being held still so the vet can get to the stitches. The vet will ask you how your kitty is doing and if you have any questions or concerns. If not, you will be on your way! Purrs to you and kitty.
  5. It doesn't take very long.
