Is it important for girls to learn basics of cooking and sewing?

When i was a kid in school, i had to take cookery and sewing lessons ... or called home science. That taught us basics of cooking and needlework. We also learned how to do laundry the correct way. Unfortunately, they are not teaching that in schools. Do you think that it is important for girls to learn these basics??

I think its important for BOYS and GIRLS to learn these things. Its part of being independent and taking care of yourself.
Everyone, boys & girls, should learn home economics. They need basic skills to help themselves, when they get out into the real world.
It's 2007, not 1947. A couple needs to share household duties if both are working, as is the case with most couples now days.
Not really. I didn't cook when I lived at home and when I was first living on my own, I cooked and laundered without needing instructions. I just take any major alterations for clothes to the dry cleaner's to do.
Yes and therer is no reason why boys should not learn that too.
Sure, and boys, too. Girls and boys also need to know basic car care, basic handtool use, and basic plumbing repair, imo. Or else they need substantial trust funds.
yea girl and boys.....because they need to know....not all the time people will be cooking for them only if they get married
