Stitches

Is it normal for your skin to heal on top of non-dissolvable stitches?

I had a mole removed from my back, and had a 2 inch gap (both vertically, and inward) that had to be sewn up afterward. It's been about a week since I've had the stitches in, and I'm supposed to have the stitches removed in four days. But just today I noticed that my skin is healing on top of the stitches. It hurts a lot. . . Is that normal?

  1. yes it's normal
  2. Yup, it's pretty common. It's going to hurt even more when they take those stitches out.
  3. Yes, it's normal for this to occur - it's part of the healing process. Take a few aspirin to help with the pain.
