What is a good number of stitches to start off with if you want to make a scarf?

I'm making a scarf for the first time, and i was wondering, what is a good number to start of stitches to start off with?

1. I just made my first scarf too and I started out with 45 stitches. It might seem like a lot when you have that many done in a row, but when i finally finished it, it looked good becuase i folded it in half when i put it on {which makes it a lot warmer} But if you decide not to fold it when you put it on, try about 25-30 stitches.
2. My first scarf was 16 stitches.
3. It depends on how thick your yarn is and what size your needles are. Cast on about twenty stitches and knit a few inches and then count how many stitches you have per inch in width, using a ruler of course. Then decide how wide you want your scarf and cast on enough stitches make it that width and knit until it is as long as you want it. Simple as that.
