How can I keep my cat from pulling out her stitches?
She just got spayed , tore up her bandage & is now pulling her stitches. I'm sure she can get new ones, but she would probably pull those too.

- They usually put the cones on their heads for that.... I would say put something with a strong smell on it...but that would probably be bad for the wound.
- Have a long talk with her. Maybe she'll stop.
- Call the vet and get a collar for her for a few days. It is like a funnel shape and she can't go outside or bath herself but she also can't pull out the stitches I have never had a cat with a bandage after a spay. The stitches are meant to come out on there own most likely. The vet won't have to remove them.Call and ask them for the collar.
- bring her to a vet to get a new bandage and fix an elizabethan collar around her head. have the vet trim her claws or do it yourself, then put little socks or mittens on her paws. Ask the vet for some anti-itching powder or spray for the wound and apply it faithfully for the cat.
- She may need pain killers. Consult vet for how much. you must make the wound inaccessable to the cat. what ever it takes to do this the other approach is to disable the means the cat uses for removing the bandages and pulling the stitches i.e. a muzzle or gloves or what ever it takes.
- Consult your vet asap! your cat may need an elizabethan collar, to prevent it from pulling the stitches out. My cat did really well after spading, but I had the surgery performed when she was real small. Monitor the stitches & keep an eye on your cat, until you can talk to your vet. Be sure to look for any swelling, redness or oozing. You don't want the area to get infected.
- Get a collar. You know the ones. I'm surprised your vet didn't give you one.
- there are those Elizabethan things they put on dogs, they also put them on cats. take her to the vet so he can put her one. also ask your vet what kind of thread he used the one which you have to come back to get taken off or the kind that disintegrate on it's own. if it's the last one then she shouldn't feel it. either why take her to the vet, and well done for spaying her.
