Stitches

Has your toddler ever had an injury and required stitches?

What happened exactly, what can I do to reduce the trauma of having the stitches removed? My daughter has 5 stitches that need to be removed and she is only 19 months. I want to minimize the trauma for her...Also is it painful to have stitches removed? I have never had stitches.

  1. My nephew had 4 stiches in his head that had to be removed, It didn't bother him at all! My other nephew had 2 in his lip that just dissolved on their own! She'll be fine!
  2. I've had stitches a few times including when I was 5. They generally do not hurt to be taken out unless one is particularly glued in. Just bring something to distract the child and all will be fine.
  3. My son fell and split his scalp open when he was two. We spent one hour convincing a doctor that I had not beaten him and then a nurse cured him with supaglue. She did say it was specially made and sterile but it was still supaglue.
  4. My son had to get stitches when he was one years old. They wouldn't let me in the room. They had to put him in a (forgot the name of it) but it was like a straight jacket. I was more traumatize than him. They also had to put him back in it to take out. I myself had stitches in my head. I believe they can numb it before they take it out. I was in a car accident so I had many stitches in my head. It really didn't hurt that much. She only has five stitches so it won't hurt.
  5. my 2 yr old daughter was running in the driveway and fell and she had to have stitches. It really wasn't that traumatic for her to have them taken out. She told me it didn't hurt. I've never had stitches either, so I'm taking her word for it.
  6. My 2 year old cousin was jumping on the couch and fell off and had to ge stitches right above his eye brow, we told him he did such a good job and he was so happy and proud of him self! getting them out i don't know about, there are one's that dissolve which sound really good for a little kid but i have no idea! She will be fine, and it probably wont traumatize her for when she grows up she will just have a cool story to tell her friends! good luck!
