Stitches

How do I keep my cat from taking out his stitches after Spaying?

I had my kitty spayed today. He came home just fine, just a little groggy. But now he is very alert only a few hours later and will not leave his stitches alone. What do I do? I have no cone collar for him and I'm afraid he is going to hurt himself.

  1. Ask the vet or go to your local pet supply store and buy one of those cone collars for cats.
  2. I know its silly this idea. But my friend had the same problem and she had to put this weird cat sweater on her cat. It might've been actually a dog sweater but she did and it worked. Plus I think its better and more humane then making your cat wear a cone. I mean would you wanna wear a cone? lol
  3. cut a sock apart slide it over the cats belly works well here having problems with the paws here
  4. They will disolve themselves. Just make sure he dont mess with it or be jumping around atleast for 3 to4 days.Thats the only way hell hurt himself. Okay? Hope this helps, Good Luck!!!!!!
  5. You'll need to purchase an Elizabethan collar, they run for about $4.00 and can be purchased at most pet stores. It looks like a cone, and goes around his head, he won't like it, but it will protect his stitches. For tonight, I understand its not reasable to find a collar right now, if you have Ben Gay around your house, you can put a little around the area, and that should stop him from bothering with it. Don't put it directly on his testicles, as it will burn the sensitive skin, but you can put it around the general area.
  6. I like the sweater idea! Good Luck!
  7. You could probably make him a cone out of poster board or part of a plastic milk jug as long as it is padded around the neck. Have you considered calling the vet about it?
