Stitches

Is there a way to get stitches to dissolve faster?

I had my wisdom teeth out 2 weeks ago. The stitches on one side have been out for a week. There is a piece that is no longer stitching anything together that seems to be knotted and is not coming out. I've been doing lots of salt water rinses. It is hurting me and there is no way to get to oral surgent till Monday.

  1. Do not try to take them out yourself. Although they seem simple to take out they are actually coated with bacteria and can cause an infection if taken out improperly. The best bet is to wait until Monday and have your Dr. take them out- as irritating as they may be. Keep up with the rinses and try not to aggravate the area too much.
  2. I had my wisdom teeth taken out last week, and the stitches were really bothering me, so I just played around with them with my tongue a lot and after a while they fell out. It's probably not too healthy to try to get them out yourself, but I know how painful they are, and it seemed to work for me, so maybe you should give it a try. Don't pull at them or anything.. just mess around with them and they should come loose.
  3. i would say just wait until monday, because it could cause you more pain if you attempt to take it out, i know its irritating but just remember its not gonna be like that forever either its dissolve or the doctor will fix it on monday.
  4. No, and I suggest that you don't try to make them go away faster. Because the dentists kno how long it will take for them to dissolve, so they put them in ur mouth so it will have that long of an amount of time to heal.
