Are knitting, cross stitch, crochet and similar needlework forgotten?
I was just wondering how many people are still doing any of them. Especially younger generations. Personally I love crochet and I am doing it since I was 10,11. It relaxes me and I always have some ready for those people that I realy appreciate and want to give a special present. I'm a mother,wife,3rd level student, have friends but I always find time to do it(usually when watching TV).

- Yes.
- I think these hobbies are actually making a comeback, especially knitting. I cross stitch because I'm not very good at making even stitches. I'm 25.
- A few years ago I spent the whole year making doilies and setting up a display at a town fair. I made close to 50. One of the items I made was a round tablecloth with daffodils. That was raffled off. The only other item sold was a ruffled doiley. A couple of girls walked by and said "my Grandma used to make them" I asked about it and her Grandmom had passed and this girl did not do our "hobby". Someone in answers said it was comming back and I hope it is as the crafts you mentioned take time to make and are "beautiful to behold". I knit, crochet, sew and do crossstitch. I also do this while watching TV. Isn't great to be able to say you are creating something instead of sitting there like a "couch potato"
- I just can't get enough cross stitch. I love it.
- I think you usually see it handed down in families. Knitting, cross-stitch, crochet, even tatting, etc. are pretty common in this area, but we live in a very rural part of IL.
- I would say that while some of the needle arts are still in vogue and going strong, some of them are becomming forgotten. Knitting, Crochet and Cross Stitch are all popluar and in little danger of becomming extinct. There are some other ones though, like making Bobbin Lace, Tatting or just other needle work stitches that fall into this category. I do embroider...I am self taught and there are some excellent guides put out by companies like DMC and such, that teaches how to make the different stitches. Keep in mind that the Cross Stitch will be in these books because, they are one stitch in the rich library of Embroidery stitches. They are not hard to learn, you just have to take the time to puzzle them out. I find that embroidery is very relaxing...and as I add to the stitches I know...I find that it is a wonderful creative outlet.
- I love needle work of all types. I've been knitting for a few months, cross stitching for several years and plan to pass them on to my 5 year old daughter. Look for a local needle work shop in your area. We have several here in Jacksonville, FL!!!
- I have been crafting since I was in grade school. I still knit, cross stitch, needle point, tat, and embroider. My latest project has been knitting Barbie doll clothes. It's very relaxing, portable, quick and easy. Free patterns are easy to find on line. My mother taught me embroidery and I am self taught in the other needle arts. I passed on a love of needle crafts to my daughter.
- Hi: There all making a come back and judging by the number of book I seen in the bookstore, there's all lot available So with about 10.5 million fans for each hobby I don't it going to die soon.
- I've been cross stitching for years. I taught my daughter how to do it two years ago when she was eight and now her work far surpasses mine! I can only hope she'll continue with it when she gets older.
- Needlework, especially knitting and crocheting, is making a comeback in a big way. The last time they were this popular was in the late 70s thru the 80s. They died out for a while; however, the diehards like you and I continued to dabble in it. I can remember searching for yarns in stores about 10 years ago and people looked at me like I was a dinosaur...and I guess I was. But lately these arts have come back into vogue in a big way. I attended our state's fiber festival (imagine an entire fairgrounds dedicated to yarn and its art forms). Our group consisted of one 24 yr old, one 25 yr old, 1 59, 2 in their 70s and one in her mid 90s. All fiber artists. We were a very typical group, lots and lots of young people are taking up knitting, forming knitting groups and loving the craft. It is very much on the upward climb. I also make the the older generations very much in demand. I have been attending groups for over a year helping newbies get into the craft. Keep those needles and hook going, we're not out of it yet! - I cross stitch and crochet.
- I'm 32 and I love to crochet. My daughter is 11 and she loves to crochet and loom knit.
- I wonder too! Where I live it is very difficult to find other people (of my own age,36) who love to cross stitch too. While on the internet, there seems to be enough people who are doing it! I also have to say that here in Holland everything you need for cross stitching is very expensive! And a bit old-fashioned. But that is improving. I guess the interest for it is growing. I hope!
