Had a minor procedure yesterday, could you answer my questions about cuts and stitches?
I had a small mole removed from the top of my inner thigh yesterday at the Hospital. I had 2 stitches put it, yesterday it didn't hurt probably because of the local anesthestic was still working. However today the cut is really sore, how long will it be sore for? ( I have the stitches removed in 10 days) They told me to keep it covered for 48 hours, I changed the dressing today and cleaned it. Should I let some air get to it after 48 hours, I'm worried it might catch on my trousers, should I keep a plaster on it, or put steri strips on to cover the stitches?

- try wearing loose trousers don't cover up the stiches cos it will get warm and could get infected u need the air to get to it to keep it dry so tht it will heal it will be sore but take some painkillers don't wash it for the first 2-3 days and you'll soon be feeling fine hope u get better soon xxx
- Suggest you keep it covered until it scabs over. That'll give it some protection from infection. Keep it clean though and wear looser trousers until it's completely healed. The pain should reduce on a daily basis.
- Cover it with gauze and only tape the edges. The gauze will allow the air to circulate. But check the wound every day. If the pain increases, or redness increases, or the edges separate see the doctor asap.
- Have a bath every day and 'pad' it dry with a clean towel. If you are wandering about your house leave it uncovered but if youre going out and you feel it may rub on your jeans etc cover it with a light dressing. It should start to scab 3-4 days post op. Pain shouldnt be too much of a problem after 48 - 72 hours
- make sure that it is clean and dry at all times. if you see any discharge of pain gets wosre go back to the doctor. Also check you dont have a fever.
- Don't wear jeans or synthetic trousers try wearing cotton trousers as they are skin friendly. Regards, Bodhost.co.uk
