What is your favourite advanced needlework stitch?

I am working on some new needlework designs and am interested in making use of some advanced counted-thread stitches. Some of the designs are on canvas, others are on evenweave, and one is on linen. I would really appreciate hearing from avid stitchers - what is your favourite complex stitch (or combination of stitches)? References would really help! By counted thread stitches I mean such things a Gobelin stitch, Rhodes Stitch, Needleweaving, things like that. These stitches can be used in embroidery, samplers, canvaswork, counted thread, etc. The ANG has some GREAT stitches online, I'm just trying to get an idea for new compilations that people actually like! Thanks.

1. When you say "counted thread" do you mean cross-stitch? My favourite counted thread type embroidery is Hardanger. There are several different common motifs used in a variety of ways and all are beautiful. Check out the website to get an idea of the possibilities.
2. I love doing Rhodes stitch variations - you can make almost any shape - hearts are fun to do! It's definitely my favorite "specialty" stitch!
