Stitches

What should I do for my dogs bleeding stitches?

My dog got neutered on Thursday and I took his E-collar off for a little while and i guess he messed with his stitches and they bleed. Is there anything I can do for him? It doesnt appear he ripped his stitches open. I cant really afford to take him to the vet but he is my best friend. Please help!

  1. Get him to lay down make sure the collar stays on and apply even gentle pressure..
  2. The E-collar should not come off at all. You need to keep it on because he will take whatever chance he gets to clean his stitches. Make sure you clean it up with some mild soap and water and some type of wash cloth. Apply very light pressure. Keep the E-collar on at all times!
  3. get off the computer and go to the vet hurry!!!!!
  4. Well, at least call the vet to let him know, just in case he needs to see him...the vet should not charge anymore just to look at him...surely it would not be an OFFICE CALL like us humans. I go my pup fixed Thurs. a week ago and they only put 1 stitch in her....there was no bleeding ...she got it out this past Thurs. Good luck with this :-)
  5. Put the E-collar back on and don't take it off until his stitches are removed. You really should take the dog to the vet just to be safe and make sure he didn't rip any of his sutures out though. Keep a close eye on it and if it continues to bleed, you need to call the vet, you should call the vet and let them know what happened to see what they say.
  6. This would be considered a recheck, and the vet should not charge for it. Take him back to the vet, or at least call them. Put the E-collar back on and leave it on until the stitches are out.
