- if she is a small dog, dont worry about it, just dont grab her around her belly. If she is large, and you MUST pick her up for whatever reason, do it as though you are giving her a hug, one arm around her back end and the other around her chest and pick her up gently. They will recommend that you keep her quiet for awhile, no jumping especially. If she is a small doggy, and you must pick her up, place one hand under her chest and support her back end with your other hand and then just hold her close to you so that she doesnt struggle. Those stitches are in there pretty good, hopefully your vet used single stitches and not one long thread (like basting, ugh!) If they are single stitches, chances are if one pops, she will still be fine. Also, alot of vets use glue nowadays, and the only stitches she will have will be internal, in which case, you wont even see them. They will dissolve all by themselves!!! Dont worry, they will give you a post-op care sheet when you pick her up...follow the instructions and you will be fine!!! Enjoy your new dog and I am so glad you adopted!!
- Don't pick her up, but if you have to ask the people at the shelter the correct way to pick her up, there is a correct way. You didn't say where the stitches are, I'm thinking shelter, spayed, abdomen. You put one arm around the rear and one arm around the front legs and lift. Tell them you are concerned and they will give yo all the assurance you need, I assure you! Thank you for getting a stray.
- Congrats on adopting your pet. They're not going to let her go home unless they feel the healing process has started and there won't be a chance of ripping. They will tell you what you need to do and how to pick her up. It seem like your nervous and that's very normal for first time pet owners. She will be tough, so don't worry or you might worry yourself to death and not her.:)
- AS LONG AS YOU ARE CAREFUL EVERYTHING WILL BE FINE. THEY ARE NOT AS SCARY AS YOU THINK. THEY ARE ACTUALLY PRETTY TOUGH.
- if you have a first aid kit it my have some goss just take that and rap it around her or just take some cotten and put it on the stitches and put tape on it put be very CAREFUL. if you need more help email me at maureen_iscool@yahoo.com
