Stitches

Is it normal for stitches to be removed in two days?

My 2 year old daughter fell and has a cut on her chin that required 3 stitches. The dr. said to come back in 2 days to have the stitches removed. 2 days sounds kinda early, should I wait longer?

  1. if the doctor says 2 days than its probley the right answer. skin heels fast. but if your worried theres no harm in waiting an extra day or two.
  2. I'd go but just have him/her check them to make sure things are healing well. I suspect that's what he/she had in mind any how. Stitches are usually removed in a week, 10 days at the max. Unless he/she is really concerned about scarring, then they may remove them and secure the cut with steristrips until it's more healed. Personally, I'd want the stitches in longer even with the risk of scarring. There are some good products out there to lessen the appearance of scars and some even include sunscreen, which is a good idea for that newly healed, tender skin. Cocoa butter works well also!
  3. do what the dr says you dont want the skin to heal over the stitches it may cause more probs later besides im sure the dr knows what he is talking about
  4. The doctor is probably concerned about scarring. He may have something else planned to keep the cut closed. Do what he says.
