Do you remove basting stitches in a quilt when you have finished?

Like when you are finished putting the layers together - Do you remove basting stitches that were used to hold the fabrics together?.. (I'm a beginner quilter =D ) ok, thank you :)

  2. Yes, they would detract from the appearance of the finished quilt. Take them out.
  3. Yes, they're just to hold the fabric pieces together until the product is finished.
  4. You ALWAYS remove basting stitches. They are in fact meant to be temporary, that is what distinguishes them from any other kind of stitch. "Purposes and Characteristics of the Basting Stitch" "The basting stitch is used only for holding plies of material together temporarily, before machine sewing. Basting stitches are removed after making the machine seam. "
