How long before I can get stitches removed?

I was mugged two days ago and my mugger cut me on my arm. I had stitches put in Wednesday night. My doctor didn't tell me how long I would have to keep the stiches before they could be removed, so I was wondering what is the average time for stitches to heal. Thanks!

1. I cut my finger bad last October. The stitches came out after 2 weeks. Depends how deep and how extensive the cut is. If it's very deep (into the muscle tissue) expect a long recovery. If it's a superficial cut you will get rid of the stitches in a week or so.
2. my brother had a cut on his arm about 2 inches and he got his removed yesterday and he got cut last friday so thats bout a week.
3. i think that on average stitches normally stay in for about a week after that they start to get uncomfortable as your body heals, if you are still not sure then i would ask your gp
4. Play it safe and call the doctor's office or the ER. Do NOT try to remove the stitches yourself. Keep the wound clean, and be sure to take your antibiotics if they prescribed them for you. Good luck.
5. All the stitches that i have had lately have been dissolving stitches,and they take about four to six weeks to dissolve..
