I need a large cross stitch planner, where can i get one please?

I am planning to do a cross stitch thingie for my wall at home 1m x 4m but need to do the plans out first. is there any free or cheep software I can use to design it or is there a special name for some paper I can buy? Thank you for your help.

1. There is software for designing cross stitch designs. Pattermaker is a software program I have used and it is fun to use. I found a list of different software design programs for you. All you really need to design your own pattern is graph paper. I will give you a link to making graph paper for free online. Draw your pattern on the graph paper and fill in the colors in the different squares. You can make it as simple or complex as you like and it won't cost you anything if you have colored pencils or crayons. Good luck!
