- Your heart seems to be in the right place. It doesn't really matter how that gift comes out what really matters is that you have done your very best making it. No one in this world can be mad at you for doing your very best. I really hope that things go well with that gift, if you are having lot of difficulty ask an older person to help you, if not visit a website that may have the instructions to what you want to do. Websites are a lot of help, just search well. Good Luck!!!
- By far the best thing I every received was burp cloths and blankets. I didn't want to spend money on these...as I had other big purchases to deal with...and as a mother you go through them...a lot! Here is a website with super easy directions. Use a soft flannel and prewash it before you sew. Then iron it. If you want to give it a super personal touch, embroider it with something cute. If you have a Joann's Fabric store around you can sign up for their e-newsletter and you get 40-50% off coupons regurlarly...can be used on one yard of fabric at a time. Good Luck! I am sure your gift is going to be wonderful and very well appreciated.
- A great gift and inexpensive. Paper and pen. make a 10 hour coupon, entitiling the new mom to ask you for help. You could babysit, run errands, help with household chores or just sit with the baby and make him laugh.
- I most appreciated a gift of a book filled with babysitting, meal making, cleaning and mother's helper coupons that was given to me at my shower. Once the new baby comes, the mom will be very appreciative of little helps like that. Your time is always the best gift.
- I have a few things I can tell you to make and give you the instructions but it would take up too much space on here. If you are interested in any of them check my avatar and e-mail me as I checked and you don't have an address.
- Those minky blankets are so pretty and inexpensive to make. You could make coordinating burp rags to match.
- I have to tell you that one of the BEST gifts I received at my Baby Shower was a pack of Curity 100% Cotton prefolded cloth diapers. They were prewashed and a handmade crochet trim was added to each end of them. They were to be used as "burping cloths". Just to be draped over my shoulder when burping to save my clothes in the event of spit up's. I used them for YEARS! I used them as burping cloths, as Bibs, as "pads" when I went out and there were no changing tables, I used them for everything! They were small enough to fit in my purse, and large enough to use in place of a blankie in a pinch... It might not be a fancy gift, but it was the most useful "handmade" gift I received, and I received many gifts including afghans, quilts, handmade embroidered baby shirts, knitted booties and hats...just to name a few.But I tell you, these simple cloth diapers were by far my most treasured gifts, I don't think I would have any clothes without spit up on them if I hadn't had these...LOL! You can also use fabric paint to stencil them, buy embroidery patches and add them to the middle panel on one side, add a cotton trim, add a bias trim. The possibilities are endless. Just remember to PREWASH before embellishing; these diapers are 100% cotton and will shrink!
- You could sew together a small quilt--they actually have some quilting kits I saw at Joann's Fabrics that had different themes and came with all the fabric and instructions on how to put it together. They are relatively inexpensive, and even if you don't make it into an actual quilt you can make it into a wall hanging for the baby's nursery instead.
- with a knifty knitter you can make a hat with the round loom and on the straight loom you can make a scarf just go to any ac Moore store and buy yarn on sale
- I made burp clothes for my grandson and other new babies - all appreciated them. The directions are at: http://www.diynetwork.com/diy/cr_needle_arts/article/0,,DIY_13768_5024879,00.html
- If you can sew, make a diaper bag, or burp cloths & you can put the childs name on it...see my page for ideals...www.myspace.com/pixie_dust_creation...or you can get a scrap book & all the stuff to go in it & put it together for them so all they have to do is add the pics
- buy some good cloth diapers and make burp towels.............Sue
