Stitch Count on Used Embroidery Machine. How much is too much?
I am looking at a used Brother Innov-is 4000D embroidery machine. The stitch count is 8,327,906. Is that too high? What kind of stitch count life-span is typical for one of these machines?

- I think it is a bit high, most embroideries average 3000 stitches per count. You also do not know if that number has been reset. Before you buy ask if you can have a dealer or repair person check it out. If you are buying from a dealer find out, what length of a guarantee comes with the machine. My Viking dealer gives a one -two year warranty on used machines she sells.
- For a machine that has such a large embroidery field (12 x 7, is that right?!?), I don't think the stitch count is that high. Some embroidery designs have 50K, and that's the standard 4x5 size! And if the former owner stitched out lace bowls, ornaments, etc, then of course the stitch count would be that high! I agree that a dealer/repair person should take a look at the machine for any worn parts that need replacing. Also, how old is the machine in question? The 4000D isn't that old, is it? Why sell it? Does the stitch count include the regular sewing stitches, too?
- Remember that these machines are intended for lifetime use, if it is looked after properly. Get a service history from the seller. This will give you an indication of how well it was taken care of. I don't think that the stitch count is a true indication of how much the machine was used, as it is usually reset when servicing. If that is the number it has done since last service, I would rather get it checked out by a reputable dealer before I spend the money.
