Stitches

how do i tell if my shop bought clothes are stitched with cotton or synthetic threads?

  1. Chances are very good that your clothing was sewn with a poly/cotton thread. The best way to test this is to try to find an extra piece of the thread and burn it. Pure cotton will burn directly to ash, leaving nothing behind except a fine ash. Synthetics will form a hard, small ball. A blend will do both, but on a smaller scale. FYI, wool will also turn to ash, but smells like burning hair. Polyester threads have a smoother "hand" than cotton. Best way to describe this is that poly threads feel more slippery. Poly/cotton is harder to feel. If your clothes are advertised "100 percent cotton," they should be just that. Even the threads should be cotton. If you're not sure, ask the store where you bought them. I hope this helps!
