  1. The Internet
  2. you'll need to learn the basics. knit and purl - for great "mini video" http://www.knittinghelp.com/knitting/basic_techniques/ this will teach you the ACTUAL stitches. but you actually may find it helpful to have a pattern, where they will help you go through the actual process for making a blanket. Unless you have SUPER long needles, I think it may be difficult for you to complete a blanket on one round of the needles. Before a baby blanket, start with something small- a potholder, a scarf or something to get used to the action. It is easy once you figure it out, but the first couple rounds are going to be pretty difficult. I completely taught myself how to knit off of the internet. so you can do it.

  4. If you're like me, and can't wait can't wait can't wait, get to your nearest michaels or craft store. Remember, anywhere they sell crafts, they make them too. They have lessons weekly. It's way easier to talk to someone instead of reading about it in a book. And that pains me because I love to read. Check out these web sites: http://www.lionbrand.com/, www.fceasyknitting.com, http://knitting.about.com/.
  5. Stop by your local library. There are thousands of knitting and crochet books out there, and you can find a lot of good ones about knitting basics, including patterns, without having to buy one. Here are a couple of my favorites - they all have color photos and easy diagrams to follow: Knitting for Baby, by Melanie Falick Kids Knitting, by Melanie Falick Stitch 'N Bitch:The Knitter's Handbook by Debbie Stoller Good Luck!
