Stitches

What is the easiest way to make a cross stitch pattern from a picture?

I do not want to buy a pattern program. I would like to make a pattern from my photos. Thanks

  1. trace it on graph paper
  2. I wonder if you blew up a picture in photo shop, would seeing the pixels help to make a pattern for cross stitch? I have made my own needlepoint, but that is simpler than trying to get the pattern onto needlepoint fabric. Graph paper is good for needlepoint, but cross stitch has much more detail in shading and blending colors. There are places that sell items that let you do your own pictures in cross stitch: http://www.pcstitch.com/ http://www.photopattern.com/
  3. get some graph paper cut to a4 size and photocopy your picture on that paper. use the original as color guide.
  4. This site has some easy-to-follow instructions for creating a pattern: http://www.cross-stitch-art.com/crossstitch2/tips08.htm
