A friend of mine just gave birth, any ideas on special ways to say congrats?
We have a different sort of frienship. She's honnestly more like a sister in law, but we have been making genuine efforts to become closer. She just gave birth today, and I was looking for neat ideas on what I could do to let her know how happy and excited Im am about the new addition. I crocheted her an afghan a few months back as a baby gift, but it seems like I should make some gesture now as well. It's her first child, and she lives very far away. Im just at a loss for ideas....

- Go on line and order dinner to be delivered after she gets home. Send a present of her favorite toiletries. Treat her to a cleaning session from something like Merrie Maids. Buy her a really nice negligee to wear after she gets her figure back. Send her one of those bed pillows with arms-great for feeding the baby. In other words, spoil her a little.
- my friend and i are both due weeks apart, and one thing we always said was we would prefer someone make us something like a hand knitted blanket, or something , store bought is soo impersonal
- why not make a "congratulations-on-you-first-child-get-well-soon" basket :) try to get like a few baby clothes, baby toys, baby books, mother's books, stretch mark remover, chicken soup, baby monitor,etc..and put them all in one gift basket :) and extend my congratulations to her :)
- Yes, a wonderful thing a baby....... everyone gives gifts for the baby...and,rightly so...but few realize what an awesome and exhausting feet that really is (even in this day and age !) I suggest you put together a little care package - depending on your financial abilities ,of course , include a small toy for the baby and maybe something for dad (?) but the bulk of the gift should be for her - bubble bath,a book of short stories, a gift certificate for chocolate covered cherries, a small bottle of sparkling cider ( with a fancy glass ) maybe even a nice nightgown - These things sound a bit silly but from here on out she will be dealing with some depression, and may not be feeling very good in many ways, her time for herself will be subject to "when she can get it" and the ego can always use a boost. I hope this has helped some - I wish you and you dear friend luck, love and kindness. Take care.
- a gift certificate from Merry Maids or a reputable house cleaning service.
