The old crochet patterns I have call for #10 Crochet Cotton. What is #10 Crochet cotton called today?

  1. I am guessing you are in USA - I'm not. One thing you could do is match the size hook to the tension you need for the pattern ... and since I see that they still sell #10 crochet cotton, I'd see if it is the same size as it was then. Ask in a yarn shop.
  2. #10 crochet cotton. The number is a size and the bigger the number, the finer the cotton. Although cotton comes in various brand names, the number sizes are standard. I don't know what brands you get where you are, but I buy Coats cotton in the required size. Coats number 5 and 8 come in many colours, but the finer ones (10, 20 up 80 and I believe 100 although I have never seen that) usually come only in white and a cream colour called ecru. DMC also make crochet cottons using the number system. I know one is called Cebelia, but I think that is about size 30 (much finer). Most of these cotton are sold in small balls about 2-3" in size, not the bigger balls of thicker cotton that is for knitting.
  3. marymaxim.com sells that
  4. I have always used size 10 crochet cotton thread with a size 7 steel hook, not long ago, I saw Aunt Lydias.
  5. It's also known as bedspread weight. At least that's what the packaging on mine says. Check with your local Walmart or craft store. It's crochet thread and usually found with the thicker cotton yarns. At Walmart it's kept to the left of the thicker yarns and usually on the bottom shelf. Ask a sales person to help you find crochet thread. Then if they ask what size tell them size 10. Good Luck and have fun.
  6. Sometimes it is called bedspread weight cotton, but mostly it is known here in my town by name brands such as DMC #10 crochet thread and Aunt Lynda's #10 thread. Sure hope this answers your question well.
