Conversion from Crochet Yarn to Crochet Thread?

I have been crocheting for 25 years but now I am finding patterns like hats mostly that I would love to make out of Crochet Thread instead of yarn. I have looked but can't find a conversion chart to convert the patterns. Can anyone help me? Thanks in advance.

  1. There are so many excellent websites that can help you, I am providing a search link for you so you can choose the one that will be best for you.
  2. Every pattern has a gauge, which tells you how many stitches you must get to the inch. Thread is much, much finer than yarn, so you'll have to hold several strands together. Or you could use a much larger hook to get the correct gauge, but your finished item will be much lacier than the original pattern. (Holes are not good in winter hats!)
  3. i did it the other way around, i used doily patterns and made hats with baby yarn, i just made the center motif until it was big enough for the top of a berret type hat. then made the rest of the hat normally, just experiment.
