How do I get Neosporin out of clothing?
I had some minor surgery and had to keep bandaids and neosporin on for 2 weeks until the stitches came out. It left "oil" stains on a few of my favorite cotton shirts and I can't get it out. It just looks like a wet spot but it's stained. :( I have tried Spray and Wash. I have tried just letting detergent set on them. I have soaked them for days. And I even tried Spor Shot Carpet Cleaner. Nothing will take the spot out. Anyone have the answer? Well, even with all your great advice... "I fought the stain and the stain won." Grrrrrrrr. My advice to you... is not to use neosporin that bleeds through bandaids onto you favorite cotton shirt! And... not to worry... I'm fine. The stitches were just for 3 little mole removals that concerned my doc. He was right, and they were bad, but he got everything so I'm fine! Thanks again for all your advice. I do wish something would have worked.

- Blue Magic stain remover. You can get it in the automotive section at places like walmart, target, etc. Anything's worth a shot at this point. If it can take axle grease outta my white carpet, I think it can handle a stain on a shirt.
- Have you tried taking to a dry cleaning place and letting them know what is going on? It may cost you a little bit, but with the money you are trying out on products, they may actually save you money in the long run if they can get it out on the first try. Just explain to them your story. Good luck!! (hope the stitches are healing up well!!)
- WASH IT WITH SOAP AND WATER...OR APPLE JUICE. I'm serious it works trust me; )
- I have had good luck with Shout. Spray it on, brush it in with an old toothbrush, let it soak for a week. Wash it as usual but let it air dry so that the stain doesn't set more if it hasn't been removed. The heat of the dryer will set any type of stain. When dry check to see if the stain remains. If it is still there, repeat.
- Use dishsoap like Dawn put it directly on the spot use hot water as well or very warm and with any oily substance it will take washing a few times but eventually you will and can remove the stain. If you would like you can put the spot under really warm water like a soak, rub in a generous amount of dishsoap try to use a colored dishsoap if the shirt is light and put it right in the wash. Repeat until stain is removed. I have 5 kids this really works.
- you can try GOO GONE it is sold at Wallmart it says it removes grease when used as a pre-wash
- Hi Kat, If the stained clothing has been through the dryer, then the heat may have set the stain. But miracles do happen sometimes. Lay the shirt on a table and put cornstarch liberally to absorb the oil over night. Brush it off. Try WD-40 by spraying in on the stain. Test this stuff on an inconspicuous area first, Make a paste of dry laundry detergent and water and apply to the stain or apply liquid laundry detergent to the stain depending on what you have for 20 minutes let it sit. Launder as usual in the hottest temperature the garment can tolerate add the normal amount of detergent to the washer. After it is done, line dry to make certain the stain is gone forever. Repeat as necessary. This should do it. I am glad you are doing better.
- Try shampoo, it seems it's the oily residue that's left and shampoo usually removes oily spots...
- This needs to be treated just the same as grease or oil, sounds like you've tried, but just incase your up to attempting some more, here goes: Sprinkle the stain with Baking Soda, scrub gently with a wat scrub brush. Pour a can of Coca-Cola into the washer and launder as usual. Spray with Formula 409, wash as usual. Wash with a cup of White Vinegar. Rub Lestoil into spots that have been in clothing for a while and wash. Last, but not least, Pine-Sol can take most oil and grease stains out of clothes.
