How do you convert Tatting, Board Lacing and Knitting patterns into Crochet patterns?
Public Comments
- You can't convert tatting or board lacing into crochet patterns. There are similarties between knitting and crochet but crochet uses more yarn per row than knitting. A row of knit stitches would be similar to half double crochet but the finished product wouldn't drape the same as a knitted product.
- Do not bother, the results will not look alike. It might be possible to copy tatting patterns into crochet work, but you need to know both kinds of work well to even start doing it. Better look for crochet patterns that are made for crochet and they will be much better. There is such a wide range in crochet patterns that there is no need to convert other patterns. If you want to copy a piece of lace you have, trial and error is the only way, but you will need to be good at crochet and know all the little tricks before even attempting it.
- Do you mean pattern as in the design or the shape of the piece. You can crochet almost any shape so if oyu can draw out the dimensions, working out from the instuctions and tension you can make up a paper pattern of what you are trying to make. I do a fair amount of converting but tend to use the shape and choose my own crochet stitches. Its fun playing around with patterns you can get better at it if you just play around a bit first. Keep notes of the amount of stitches you are using and your own decreasing increasing so that you can make the pieces fit each other.
