What good-quality fabrics that designers use can I use to make a dress? I hate the cheap, poor-quality fabric that are in every fabric store I walk into. I really want to make a dress that I designed, but I want to make it out of good-quality fabric that is durable and comfortable and looks nice, not the kind of fabric that wal-mart sells. What fabric do designers use that I could use to make my dress? Or, what are some good-quality fabrics that I can buy online or at a store that are not very expensive?

How do water repellent fabrics work on a molecular level? Fabrics are sometimes made "water repellent" by coating them with substances that cause water to form beads instead of spreading out on the fabric surface. What do you suppose is happening on a molecular level when a surface repels water in this way?
What other fabrics tend to keep or lose their insulation properties when wet? For example cotton is famous for losing its insulation effect when wet and wool is famous for keeping its insulation effect when wet. What about other fabrics are there any others that are particularly good or bad when wet? I'm not talking strength here, I'm just trying to stay warm while I ride my bike in the rain.
Any ideas how to organize my collection of fabrics? I am a sewing enthusiast. I have fabrics in all sorts: silks, wools, cottons, leather, jersey, etc. I now have it in boxes. When I need to find any particular one, I go through dozens of boxes and it is driving me crazy. It is especially exhausting when some boxes are in my apartment and some are in the garage. As space is at a premium, I don't have the luxury of sorting and placing one major type of fabrics in one box. Thanks.

How to restore white synthetic fabrics after accidental bleaching? I accidentally bleached some white synthetic fabrics and they turned blotchy yellow. I have trying RIT Color Remover, RIT Whitener&Brightener [for fabrics that cannot be bleached], hydrogen peroxide, borax, vinegar, and baking soda. I'm afraid that if I try bluing it will give me splotchy super bright white shirts because of the blotchiness from the original mistake bleaching. What else can I do to try to return them to white?

Is there any stretch fabrics that are like PVC fabric but more breathable? I am looking to make a full body suit, and so far all the fabrics I find are see through, or not wet looking enough? I want it to look like PVC fabric because so far that looks the best! Just I hear people get over heated very easily in it! So I am wearing the outfit I will make to a convention! What is the minimum cut of fabric I can get at Joann Fabrics? I am making a quilt and will need only 1/2 yard cuts of multiple prints and was wondering if they have a policy of a minimum length of cut? I took a class which basically taught me how to follow a pattern, but I want to know about different types of fabrics, and different techniques and such. I'm looking to buy yardage of Designer Fabrics like Michael Miller, Robert Kaufman, Amy Butler, Riley Blake, etc. I have found great fabric stores on etsy because my local fabric stores stink. The only problem with etsy is that most sell only a single yard from $8-$12. I'm looking to buy at least 2 yards of multiple fabric. I am also interested in buying single bolts, but realize I can't purchase directly from the designers. How do I add custom fabrics to my jeans? Should I glue, stitch by hand or machine? I find that old navy & express bootcut jeans fit me perfectly...the problem is they all look the same and have little flavor. being jamaican, i need to brighten things up a bit. I want to cut slits in the jeans and place some bright colors & designer fabrics in the gaps. I havnt found detailed info on how to do this. What I have in mind is to use a box cutter / razor to cut the slashes, turn the jeans inside out. attach the fabric with a typical hot glue gun then stitch over the glue. Does this sound like a good plan? and will it hold up if the washing machines? I was planning to do this by hand but is there any way to do this with a sewing machine without stitching my jeans shut? Also, I was thinking of maybe spicing up the back pockets. Any suggestion? Tips? Advice?
Does anyone know where I can buy Cath Kidston fabrics, but for a cheaper price? The ones featured on her website are all very nice but they are very expensive. I really like the cushions and thought about getting some plain cushions for a cheaper price and then buy some vintage / paisley print fabrics and have the covers made myself. What Colors and Textiles/Fabrics Were Frequently Used In Ancient Rome? I'm an interior design student and have a final project where I have to take the example of the Ancient Roman Colosseum and create a modernized interior of it. I need to put modern/contemporary twists on it and I need to use more color than they did. Where can I buy World Market fabrics? Like the throw pillow fabrics in larger quantities? I often shop at World Market stores (and Cost Plus World Market) and I love their throw pillows. I am always on the lookout for curtains and bed spreads that match the pillows they sell, but they never seem to make any. So, I would like to make curtains and bed spreads that match them myself, but I can't find the fabrics. Whats the best fabric or fabrics for a suit? I'm looking to buy a solid black suit but not sure what type of fabric or fabrics for the suit i should choose. I know you can get some with 2 different types as well cause i own a shirt made from half polyester and spandex for a nice fit. Which fabric or fabrics would you refer in a suit?. Uhm. Is it okay to mix fabrics for bridesmaid dresses? I want my bridesmaids to be able to pick their own dress styles, but I'm having a difficult time finding a variety of dresses all the same length that are made of the same fabric in David's bridal. Has anyone made a quilt/coverlet from fine silk like polyester fabrics? I've been asked to make a twin bed cover/quilt from "Hawaiian" mu-mu fabrics. I assumed the fabrics would be cotton floral prints. When the box arrived it contained a dozen flowing caftans and a number of scarves of fine silk like polyester, all in dramatic prints. I can't imagine that fabric as a bed quilt. Has anyone worked with this type fabric for a coverlet? How would I stabilize the work? Thanks for all input.

Where can I buy some ballistic nylon, high-tech zippers and hardware, mesh, padding, suede, polartech fleece, etc. I've looked in all my local fabric stores. They seem to cater to people making dresses and curtains. I can't seem to find the cool high-tech fabrics anywhere. Any advice?
How do you dye "dry clean only" fabrics? i just bought a chair from ikea, and HAD to get the white cover. this will be dirty 2.5 minutes after its all set up, so id like to dye it. RIT brand dyes say not to use on dry clean only fabrics, what happens if i do? also, do dry cleaners dye fabrics? ive never used one... the slipcover is white. i wouldnt be dying the actual furniture. and the slipcover is 99% cotton, 1% spandex, i believe.
