Needlework Supplies Knowledge Base
Where to find a hobby shop for needlework? I used to do embroidery and now I'm interested in taking it up again and just making random things to decorate my apartment with. Where can I find a hobby shop to buy supplies and get ideas from? I live in Orange County, CA, and doing a Google search hasn't really helped. Walmart and Target doing carry these supplies either. Help :)
Best places to buy crafting supplies? I am wondering where the best places are to buy crafting supplies for things like yard/needlework, wax for candle making and homemade balms, all sorts of actaul crafting stuff. Not yard balls for little kids, or popcicle sticks. Any answers would be great either online or in person. sometimes big name stores like Joannes and Michaels can be kind of spendy. thank you!
needlework? how to start a new project and the tools and supplies needed
What should I name my junk/storage room? We don't have a basement. We have a two car garage, and an attic that I would prefer not to clutter with crap. So, I have decided to convert a small room about 6' X 9' into a storage/pantry room. I have two big shelving units and would like to keep our suitcases there, maybe use one or two shelves for canned goods, bath linens, and containers holding sewing/needlework supplies, magazines, and gifts. I am trying to come up with a cute catch all for the Junk Room/The Vault/Treasure Room, etc. Please help me come up with a name. BTW, our house has two nice sized bedrooms, two baths, the laundry room is in our Master bedroom, in an alcove off the room. Our house is a one-floor rambler, sort of like a cabin on the lake! A wonderful home for retirement. I am trying to down-size and have everything neat. I am clean-gene deficient so I need to maximize this little room and make it easy for me to get to my treasures or canned goods. lol FYI: I like to name rooms or places. Our house is called "On Golden Pond" like the movie. I guess I am eccentric!

What is the name of that craft? My friend did it in highschool. It was kind of like a mini carpet, & similar to that plastic canvas thing ( http://www.needlework-tips-and-techniques.com/plastic-canvas.html ) but its not plastic canvas cause the yarns are sticking out like in a carpet & you use a tool of some sort to put the yarn in. Its nothing like a needle. I have the supplies since highschool but I never got to doing it, & now I forgot but IDK what the craft is called.
What type of business should I open? I have operated a retail frameshop and needlework business for the past 20 years, and am thinking of trying something different. The frame business has not been very good recently due to intense competition and an economic downturn, so I am looking for ideas. I own a 3300 sq foot freestanding commercial building which has housed the frameshop for many years. I have also been debating either finding a new tenant, or continuing with the frameshop, but downsizing or adding a new product line. Art supplies, or other types of needlework (quilting or knitting) are out of the question-too much of these things in my area. I am not adverse to a franchise type biz, but only if it could be operated in my current space. I also hope to be able to open only 6 days a week- Im too old to be open 7 days. Thanks in advance for your ideas.
Italian postal restrictions.. are they out of their minds? I'm not making this up, you can check the full text here: http://pe.usps.gov/text/imm/il_008.htm But WHY? I am attempting to re-group after many years of harassment and domestic abuse. Now...? I want to return to college and finish my last year. However, because of the extended time I was pursued and abused I have little work history and am ragged. I have been unable to find work/jobs/or entry level careers in the current tight job market. Fortunately, I have a website, am a Amazon Associate, have an account on ebay, an account on etsy (for handmade goods) and have written a few articles for three major article writing venues. With the article writing business I do not have enough page views as of yet and have earned less than ten ($10.00) dollars thus far. I am not on the public dole but get assistance until I can get back on my feet from a relative who is soon to enter law school as well. I have done my research (I love research and ultimately will go to law school) and have lots of projects that should bring in income for me. But I need to raise money to purchase supplies. As well, I want to earmark monies IMMEDIATELY for my college education. What I want to know is what is the best way to raise money quickly such that I can launch my business ventures? The amount of money I would need initially would be less than one-thousand ($1000.00) dollars. I make my crafts from scratch and have master skills in needlework, so I project-based on my past performance-that I can command a decent price for my wares. I've thought of just about everything but have been unable to get over the final hurdle of financing (even minimally) my business ventures. I would appreciate any suggestions to help me out of this bind. I am not considering peer-to-peer lending nor borrowing money of any sort. I have not had credit in over a decade...besides...I cannot pay back any monies borrowed. From research, I know the Internet is a powerful medium with a world-wide community of people who exemplify the absolute best in human kind. I would appreciate suggestions on proven methods of raising funds. No overnight schemes or work-at-home (after all these years I am chomping at the bit to re-join the business work force) schemes. I appreciate all serious responses.
What does this excerpt from The Scarlet Letter mean? “Lonely as was Hester’s situation, and without a friend on earth who dared to show himself, she, however, incurred no risk of want. She possessed an art that sufficed, even in a land that afforded comparatively little scope for its exercise, to supply food for her thriving infant and herself. It was an art, then, as now, almost the only one within a woman’s grasp-of needlework. She bore on her breast, in the curiously embroidered letter, a specimen of her delicate and imaginative skill, of which the dames of a court might gladly have availed themselves, to add the richer and more spiritual adornment of human ingenuity to their fabrics of silk and gold.’
