In Crochet what is the difference between yarn round hook and yarn over hook? I have been reading a crochet magazine and trying to learn how to read patterns. There are some 'how to' sections in the magazine but both yrh and yoh apear to be taking the yarn the same way over the hook. I thought one would loop the yarn the opposite way over the hook to the other otherwise there would be no point in using both terms. I'm a lttle confused and any help with this would be appreciated - thanks
Is crossed stitch the same as slip stitch in crochet? I got a German Crochet (Filet) Magazine and I am trying to translate it because I love this one doily in it. I'm pretty much done but I tranlated Kettmasche into crossed stitch. The symbol is like a little rainbow or an upside down u. I'm confused though, does cross stitch mean slip stitch? Thanks in advance for help.

Is there a program to make a crochet pattern diagram? I Have been looking for patterns that have a diagram to them. I have a grandmother who loves to crochet but cannot read. Seems the magazines she use to buy with diagrams in them no longer sell. I wonder if there is a program out there that will allow me to make a diagram of the stitches for her.
When is the art of crochet out? Hey I bought this magazine "the art of crochet" issue 1 last week. It says on the may that it's released each week but it has been 2 weeks and still no sign! Does anyone know when the second one comes out or even what day it's out?
Crochet pattern help? I am working on the Sugarplum Bolero from the Spring 2007 Interweave Crochet magazine. I am having trouble getting enough stitches by the end of row 4, which reads: Row 4 (inc row): Ch 1, sc in first sc, ch 3, *[puff in next ch-3 sp, ch 3 sc in next ch-3 sp, ch 3] to next marker, (puff, ch 3, puff) in marked sc, ch 3, sc in next ch-3 sp, ch 3; rep from * 3 times, puff in last ch3 sp, ch 3, sc in last sc, turn--30 ch-3 sps. At the end of row 3 there were 21 ch-3 sps. I have tried repeatedly and get only 26 at the end of row 4 when I am done. There are 4 markers and one increase at the end of the row; I can't figure out how to get another 4 ch3 sps out of this. If anyone else is working on this or has the magazine and can offer some insight, I'd appreciate it! Thanks.
What is a good crafting/cooking magazine? I'm looking for a (bimonthly or monthly maybe) magazine that contains ideas for decorative and useful crafts, cooking and baking, and possibly even crochet and knitting. Preferably, the instructions wouldn't call for expensive and hard-to-find materials and foods, but household items instead. Does anyone know of a magazine like this?

How many crocheters do you know that has the skill to crochet the project from the picture alone? My mother was such a crocheter, the picture in the magazine was enough for her. She was very poor at trying to read instructions. I learned as a teen and taught my mom many things. I not only acquired this skill from her to work from pictures, but I can read any type instructions, also put any type project in to any type of art and design most anything. I hope we are amoung millions, but no one can know, if they do not ask.
where to find free online crochet diagrams? What was the name of that crochet magazine that didn't use text instructions but instead used diagrams and symbols. If I recall, most of the patterns were for doilies. That's what I'm trying to find. I've never gotten the hang of doing it with printed word and now I can't find anything, on the newsstands, online or even in crafts/yarn stores, that has those diagrams. I've found a few that offer a repetitive pattern for a blanket or what not, but nothing for doilies. Can anyone help?

How do I change a crochet pattern so that the finished product will fit me? I have a crochet pattern from a magazine for a shirt and the sizes in the directions are for bust circumferences 34" and up. I want to make my shirt so that it will fit a circumference of 32.5" and I'm not sure how to change the pattern. For a 34" bust you chain 158 and for the bigger sizes- (38, 42, 46, 50)" you chain (176, 188, 206, 224). Any ideas on how I should re-size the pattern?
What's the most efficient way to sell craft supplies and books? I'm ready once and for all to downsize my stash of craft books (mostly knitting, crocheting, cross stitch), magazines, and supplies. I'd like to know how others have succeeded and what they recommend. I've had limited success with Amazon, and am now considering Yahoo groups, eBay, blujay, and such. Ideas will be greatly appreciated! Thanks.

I would happly buy the pattern if necessary or pay to have it copied. Thanks Thanks for the answer but it's not the one I'm looking for. McCalls Needlework & Crafts magazine, circa 1970s? I'm looking for a crochet pattern for a triangular shawl that was published in McCall's some time between the late 1960s to the 1970s. It was a quadruple crochet pattern that produced a very web-like and lacy pattern, and had a fringe about a foot long on two sides. Can anyone help?
Does anyone know how to make a Pinwheel Quilt using the pinwheel gadgets? I saw a pattern for this about 30 years ago and bought the pinwheel gadget but now that I am finally determined to give it a go at making one, I find that my husband has thrown out all the magazines I had stored (including the one that had this pattern in it). This type of quilt is made using the gadget to make a kizillion little pinwheels which then get sewn or crocheted (I don't remember) together. Can anyone help please? I've just been told it's not a pinwheel - it's a DAISY WHEEL. Does that help anyone?
Plastic Canvas Magazines? I used to receive several Plastic Canvas magazines. A couple went out of print, and the last one (Annie's Plastic Canvas Magazine) is now changing into a crochet-based magazine. Does anyone know of any Plastic Canvas magazines that are still active/in print? Thank you for the links -- however, what I'm really trying to find is an actual subscription based magazine (i.e. that I would get in the mail on a monthly or semi-monthly basis). Anyone know of one?
Cat pictures with big, sad eyes? I am searching for information about a set of 4 cat pictures that were listed for sale in the old workbasket crochet magazines around the 1950's. The artist was "Lee" and there were 4 different scenes of cats. The cats had really large sad eyes with long necks and bodies. One cat was sitting beside a garbage can. Another was standing in front of a brick wall. There were two others with different color cats making a set of 4. This same artist also had a picture with a puppy and one with a little girl pulling a wagon with puppies in it for sale. All of the pictures I've seen the animals and the little girl had really big, sad eyes. These pictures were printed on a shiny paper and glued to something that looked like pressed board similiar to partical board. They were about the size of standard typing paper.
Collectors: How do I research the value of the turn-of-the century? pattern books I have for knitting, cruel, and crocheting? Kovels.com was not of help and neither was worthpoints.com. What exactly do I call these? They are not books but not really magazines either. Just 5-20 pages each or so...I don't know where to start? Also, I had a heck of a time deciding where to put this question so if you know of a better category for it, please advise.
Black mold/mildew in magazines? I have been given an excellent stash of old magazines full of crochet patterns. However, they are riddled with black mold and they stink. I want to photocopy the patterns -- is black mold harmful in any way if I am just going through the magazines? Should I wear a mask?
knitting/crocheting help for teen?? which is easier to learn how to do... knitting or crocheting?? -i saw an article in a magazine today about how knitting/crocheting helped a teen girl like de-stress and she donated some of the peices she made to charity and stuff. and i dont really have a hobby. and would like to help charity. -so i was wondering which is easier to do--for a teenage girl at least. --and any good websites/books that could teach me how or show me step by step how to do it. Describe the tackiest wedding gown you have ever seen? I don't necessarily mean one you saw in real life. If you saw it in a magazine or on the web, that counts too. A link would be great too! Here's my answer: http://cgi.ebay.com/ELEGANT-Wedding-Dress-Mothers-Dress-Crochet-Patterns_W0QQitemZ140221901909QQihZ004QQcategoryZ11798QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem Personally, I can't imagine any woman looking at this and wanting someone to make that for her. I agree that everyone is entitled to their opinion.
Easy jewelry with everyday items? My aunts birthday is coming up and I need some ideas or tutorials for making jewerly. I want it to be pretty, but unique. The thing is I don't have a lot of crafty stuff at my home. I don't want to have to go and get something. Here's some of the stuff I have: fabric and felt beads yarn perler beads glitter glue magazines I also have a few other things. I know how to sew and crochet. Thanks for the help!! I really appreciate all the input!
How do you organize your knitting/crocheting supplies, patterns, yarn and current projects? I have stuff literally everywhere! (well in my living-room closet) I buy yarn for a certain project and put all those skeins in a plastic bag and pile them in one corner of my closet, then stuff that I'm currently working on, I have in a plastic bin - kinda like a laundry basket and it holds my few current projects the skeins of yarn needed and my 2 needle holders for crochet hooks and knitting needles. plus the patterns I'm currently working on. But I have dozens of computer-printed patterns that I have in my magazine rack, along with some misc pattern books and I feel like I'm too unorganized and have to keep searching for stuff! I need some creative ideas on organizing this stuff! I have on hand at least 3-4 dozen skeins of yarn, plus everything else and my husband is probably getting a little annoyed with me :)
Are there any good biographies on QueenVictoria? She sounds like an impressive lady. I am an American and even I've heard about her. I recently read an article how she made the art of crochet popular. It was in my craft magazine... I also hear if "Victorian era" things such as furniture, art, designs, and all sorts of stuff. If she inspired us across the Atlantic, she must have been remarkable. Since I like to read non-fiction biographies, I am wondering if there are any good ones about her. I think she was ahead of her time...and probably the coolest monarch as far as monarchs go...(Americans aren't that into monarchs much, but she seems cool.)
Does anyone still care for crocheted sun catchers or dream catchers, what of these were most liked of all? I used to see them alot, then I designed several of my own, put them away and forgot about it, now I think they look very interesting and so do the others from those once published. I get several magazines, but not any crochet books in recent years to keep up with such things. So who likes and uses them? I have used hoops, I have also made hoops out of plastic canvas, but I have also made the project so stiff, I did not need anything. I do like them, but just do not see them, so I have been curious for a while. I found this, imagine that! http://prosites-celorenz.homestead.com/SUNCATCHERSCrochet.html

Are There Any Practicing Christian Guys Who Would Like To Be Friends or More? Hello Guys. ;-) I'm a 23 year old/F and I live in Sacramento, CA. I'm 5'7" Brunette, Brown eyed girl, but I am over weight. I'm somewhere between 220 - 240 lbs. However, I gain weight all over so it's not just in one spot. I'm a practicing Roman Catholic and I love to research, read (books on psychology, self help books/organization skills, advice magazines, health, natural remedies, history, hobbies), write (children's stories and poetry), crochet, cross stitch, draw, crafts (e.g. puppet making, scrapbooking...)), volunteering, pets, gardening. I'm very accepting of everyone, and I've been told by my friends that I'm the "Everyone's Friend" type of person because I choose to see the positives in people than their flaws. I'm looking for a long term relationship because I want to get married, but I do prefer younger guys (but under 31 is fine). I also love Blondes! :-D But Brunettes, Black Heads, and Red Heads are fine too. ;-) If you'd just like to be friends feel free to respond
Crafts 'n Things mag...? Does anyone have the crochet pattern for baby blanket edging in April 2008 Crafts 'n Things magazine? The blanket was pink with white scalloped edging, I think, or vice versa.

Yarn in [1] Super Fine and [2] Fine recommendations? I bought a couple of nice crocheting and knitting magazines, and quite a few patterns are calling for yarn weights in both [1] and [2]. Any recommendations for yarn in these weights that I can get at either Walmart, AC Moore, Michaels or Joann Fabrics? I would prefer not to order online for these (want to see them in a store)... but if I absolutely have to, I will. Also, if there is some other trick (e.g. using 2 or 3 strands of a particular size of crochet thread) please let me know.
Labbie Boredom Buster? For about the last week my 9 month old lab seems bored all the time. She completely destroyed the living room today - tearing up her vet records, two magazines, and a fleece that were on the kitchen table, chewing on four shoes, and tangling about 20 balls of crochet yarn. Only once before has she ever chewed on anything not hers - one shoe. I crate her, but as she showed she could be trusted, I leave her out if it's not going to be long (up to about 6 or 7 hours and she has done fine). Today she was only alone for about 5 hours. We go on a daily walk/hike of 3 miles. She is usually off the leash and free to run and chase whatever. She is usually pretty laid back and content the rest of the day. But the last week or so, she has been pacing and wanting to go in and out all the time. She has gotten lazy with her kongs - chewing for a little while and then bringing them to me as if to say you just do it. She has lots of toys (chew, stuffed, fetch) and plenty of friends. Any ideas? She remains bored even with the Kongs. She is excellent at getting treats out of the Kongs - we use biscuits, peanut butter and bread, anything that will keep her busy for more than a moment. But regardless what's in the Kong, she seems bored with them, too. She plays with other dogs at least two times a week. I have considered getting a second dog - but I've only had her for two and a half months and right now don't have the money for additional vet bills and food unless I reduce the quality of care and food she is getting. I am involved with a lab rescue and have also considered fostering where those expenses would be covered, but these dogs also come with their own problems and I feel like I need to establish a good set of rules and get her trained well, so that she can lead by example for a new dog. After today she is definitely going back in the crate while I'm gone, but even when I'm around, she still just seems so bored. The weather has changed in our area - getting cold. And today, I did try a different hike - I'm hoping the change of scenery may help. We do typically change it up quite a bit though - about every fourth time, we move to a different park or just go on a neighborhood walk or try a new trail. Also already tried some new Kong toys. She chewed through a puppy Kong a while back, so we have two red Kongs and a new Black Kong (that kept her busy for a good portion of last week), a Kong Treat Ball, a Kong dental jack, and a brand new (bought Saturday) black Kong treat bone. I switch them out (both the Kong and the types of treats I use) often. I am just at a loss for what to do. She has actually finally settled down tonight - asleep on the floor.
What do you think of Common? Blender magazine recently named Common number 18 on their "25 Biggest Wusses . . . Ever" list. The list includes Chris Martin of Cold Play, Metallica, and Boys II Men. The magazine says, "Being a sensitive backpacker MC is one thing. But when you’re a teetotaling, incense-burning, crocheted-scarf-wearing vegetarian whose real name is Lonnie Lynn … well, let’s just say street cred isn’t an issue. Call him the hip-hop Stuart Smalley: “I just wanna be happy with being me,” Kanye’s boho homey once rapped. Awww …" But what do you think? Do you think that Common's personal lyrical style makes him a wuss? Is he being put in this catagory simply because he isn't a gansta rapper? Or do you honestly think that he is a wuss for eating less meat and drinking less than the rest of Hollywood? I would like your honest feedback. For those of you who don't know Common and want to learn more of what he's about, try listening to his song, "I Used to Love H.E.R." I mean really listen to the words. It blew my mind the first time I heard it. It's what made me become a real fan and not just a passerby listening occasionally.
