What year is my Clark's Big Ball of size 20 Crochet Thread? According to the label it was originally sold for 55 cents. It is a red and gold label, Clark's Big Ball size 20 thread, 450 years "Boilfast". Any ideas as to the year? I understand after 1949, Clark's became Coats and Clark's, so that's all I have to go on.

Help with crochet thread, what is thickest? I make little doll shoes and have recently found that the string like crochet thread is better than wool. How to thread tapestry needle for crochet? I am trying to teach myself to crochet. I have 2 edges that I need to attach together. I know this sounds stupid, but how do you thread the yarn needle to sew the pieces together? In all the videos I've watched, they just put the yarn through and don't knot it or anything. And then it magically holds the pieces together. I don't understand! I just want to sew the pieces together with yarn and a yarn needle but I don't even know how to start by threading the needle! I have no experience with this whatsoever!

I would really like to see some patterns, free or paid, that use size 10 thread. Thanks!

Thread Crochet: How to assemble motifs for a tablecloth? I've made doilies before; but this is my first tablecloth. It requires a total of 176 motifs, and when finished the tablecloth will be 11 rows of 16 motifs each. Oh, the motifs are square-shaped. This pattern has me assembling as I go, i.e., the first motif is made and completed. Then the second (and all remaining) motif is joined to the first motif while crocheting the last row. The joining round has two separate instructions... for One Side Joining and Two Side Joining. I understand all that and how to join... but I am not sure *how* to add the motifs. Do I just make a row of 16 motifs and then for the 17th, just start joining to Motif #1 on Row 1? Or, do I join in a diagonal fashion? Like make Motif #1, the attach Motif #2 to Motif #1's bottom edge; then Motif #3 joined to Motif #1's right edge; then Motif #4 joined to M#2's right edge & M#3's bottom edge? Am I over-thinking this? Thank you SO much for your help! I promise to give 10pts for Best Answer! Cindy

Can yarn be starched like crocheting cotton thread? I crochet baskets and other items from cotton thread and, when done, I starch them with a 1:1 sugar and water mixture which is boiled to dissolve the sugar then cooled and the item dipped in it. I have made something for my grandson from acrylic knitting worsted and would like it to retain its shape but I don't know if I can use the same starching method to accomplish this. Anybody know? Thanks, Deana

How do I hold the thread in place in my crochet project?? Please help! 10 pts? Yes I know this isn't exactly the right section for this question but it is my favorite section and I know there are other mothers out there that know how to crochet...I hope. I am working on a beanie cap for my daughter for the coming season. I am half way almost down the cap and I want to do a different stitch design however I want to hold my thread in place now so that if I don't do the stitch right, I won't mess up the whole hat. Please help! Thanks very much! Linda I KNOW this has nothing to do with Newborn and Baby. That is what I said in the question. I however like this section and figure some moms who know how to crochet could help me. You don't have to be rude! Jeez
Coats Crochet/Knitting Cotton Thread? I have a 1978 knitting pattern for a eco-friendly shopping bag. The pattern states that Coats Lotus No.8(50g), 2 balls should be used with No.11 knitting needles. I have not been able to find Coats Lotus No.8 on the Coats website and was hoping someone may be able to tell me what I could use as an equivalent.
A question for those who crochet or knit clothing? How do you secure buttons (with regular sewing thread) to an article of knitted or crocheted clothing? How do you secure thread to yarn? Is there another way to do it? The reason I cam asking is because it seems like it would be easy for the thread to come loose from the yarn. Thread--or even a few strands of yarn--would be thinner than the yarn and I would think it would come un-weaved from the yarn easier.
Where can I find free crochet patterns online? My husbands Grandmother has asked me to crochet an "edge" on a dresser runner that she embroidered. I know basic stitches but have never worked with such fine thread before. I'd like to find something simple and pretty to put on this linen that isn't going to make me crazy. Anyone know any sites for this type of delicate crochet? Thank you!!!
How do I attach some vintage crochet edging to a pillowcase that has the little holes in the edge? HELP!? I removed this edging from an old pair of pillowcases my mom had embroidered when the old cases became unusable. I would like to reuse the edging. I have embroidered a new pair of cases that have the holes near the edge with a raw edge below that. Can I just slip stitch the crochet edging into the holes in the case with white embroidery floss or even plain white thread? What do I do about the raw edge? I appreciate any help with this, and since I am "craft-challenged," the simpler the better! Thanks!
