crochet stitches? Is there anywhere online where I can learn some unique crochet stitches? All I know ,(and I know very well) is a single, half double, double, treble, slip stich, and I can make a round. Is there any unique and creative stitches I can learn? My grandmother used to teach me but she recently passed away. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
What are the best knitting or crochet stitches for unusual yarns? I bought a bulky (works on size 10.5 American needle) black boucle yarn with a bit of white and a thread of mylar for sparkle. What is the best knitting or crochet stitch to show off the yarn? And I have a 1/2 inch wide multicolor ribbon yarn. How do I show off the yarn/colors? Long stitches seem to be my only choice, so far. Are there others?
What does it mean to "single crochet 2 stitches"? Rnd 3: sc 1 round even. (8 sc) Rnd 4: sc 2 stitches together around. (4 sc) Crochet hole closed with as many sl st as needed. Ch 6 and then attach bobble to top of hat by making a circle of 5 slip stitches around the top. Fasten off.
my first rows of ripple crochet stitches are too tight, the rest are fine. Help? I started out way too tight on my stitches, and now have loosened up (I'm a beginner). I like the part I've been working on now, but the first 10 - 15 rows are too tight and the whole end of the afghan narrows. Can I undo the beginning and just work backwards some how, or redo the beginning and attach it some how? HELP!
Website that shows several crochet pattern stitches? Does anyone know of a good website that shows different crochet pattern stitches? I know how to do basic stitches (sc, dc etc), but I'd like to see stitch patterns using combinations of those stitches so I can adapt them to other projects. For example, shell patterns, basketweave, etc.
Crochet stitches for beginners? I've just learned to crochet and can do a single and double chain stitch. What are some other stitches I can try that are easy enough for a beginner?
why do i keep dropping my crochet stitches? i was crocheting a scarf and i noticed it was getting shorter. i know i have to go all the way to the end before turning. but i cant figure out why it is getting shorter HELP!!!
Is there a crochet stitch that stretches? I have patterns for crochet hats - but they don't stretch to fit different people very well - like a knit hat would. The patterns I have all use single and double crochet stitches in rounds. Is there a pattern or stitch that has some give to it when done? Thanks!
How to crochet a ripple stitch lap blanket? Does anyone know of a very easy to follow ripple stitch crochet pattern for a lap blanket/afghan/throw? Not a full size blanket and not a baby one. Just something to throw over while watching TV. How many chain stitches should I start with and what to do next? Maybe about 4 ft wide? I am not sure how to calculate how many chains I need for that width or how many ripples I need. Thanks!
Crocheters, do you like to talk crochet stitches, I do, as reverse sc or crab st, what about a twisted sc? Reverse single crochet is a trim stitch made going in reverse of the original stitch, but can the same stitch be acomplished going in the same direction as the stitch is, when being made, if so, * with the two loops of the single crochet on hook, or the last two loops of the double crochet on hook, the loops will twist as the hook point is taken foward and right, all the way around to pick up the yarn and draw [ or ease ] through the twisted loops on hook, repeat * with the next stitch. 1. The twisted single crochet trim stitch, or reversed crab stitch with sc. 2. The twisted double crochet trim stitch. If the above is reversed with loops being taken backward and right all the way around to yarn picked up and eased through twisted loops, I would want to call it the rolled single crochet trim stitch, but as reverse sc, it's not needed. I have been using them for years and they have worked for me. This is why I think talking crochet stitches is a good thing, do you think so? Would anyone please try these stitches and give your opinion as to what you think of them?
knitting knit stitches and crocheting crochet stitches? Knitting knit stitches and crocheting crochet stitches? I know this is a really silly question to someone who might be an experienced knitter/crocheter, but I am having a little trouble! My pattern says: Row 1 - k2, *p2, k2 repeat from * to end Row 2 - Knit the knit stitches and purl the purl stitches as they face you Repeat Row 2 for 2 x 2 rib I have finished Row 1 and ended with two knits. Does this mean that on Row 2 I would start with two knits? Or am I doing the opposite? I'm sorry if this is confusing!
Easy crochet stitches? I'm not sure what level of 'expertise' I could give my crocheting skills but I can say I at least have the basic stitches down (sc,hdc,dc...). I've made scarves, beanies, a pair of wristwarmers...and just recently my first baby blanket. Can some of you crochet guru's suggest some new stitches for me to try out, particularly for beginning and intermediate learner's using the basic stitches? Most of the things that I've made (all of them, now that I think about it) were made without a pattern...they turned up fine by chance and virtue of my hoping they would...and the very occasional unraveling. Also, I'd like to expand my horizons as far as making new things. Can you share a site or two you know of with free easy patterns available? I really would like to try making a capelet, and maybe a shawl too. I'd appreciate any kind of help =)
what does this lady mean by 2 single crochet stitches? im new to this and i just don't know what she means. the video is below. <object width="560" height="340"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/FIH0ntfwzCk&hl=en&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/FIH0ntfwzCk&hl=en&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="560" height="340"></embed></object> or http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FIH0ntfwzCk&feature=fvst
I find that the crochet stitches are too tight making it difficult to insert the hook.? I am NEW to crochet, and I find that the stitches are too tight making it difficult to insert the hook. Ideas? I have really no idea what yarn "weight" I am using, it is 4 ply and the label suggested a 5/H hook...but like I said, instead of a relaxing project I am fighting to insert the hooks in the loops! Please give me some advice, I'd really like to continue. I just wanted to say that I took all your VERY similar (but awesome and right on the money) answers and practiced loosening slooowly at home and it worked! It was 10x easier, no doubt. THANKS for the tips, I know to come here now whenever I have a crochet question!!
What would be quicker: a baby blanket using straight single and double crochet stitches or granny squares? I want to make a baby blanket for my daughter, however she is due in October and I don't have a whole lot of time left to make it. Would you suggest just making a basic blanket out of single and double crochet stitches or would you make different granny squares and then connect them for the blanket? I have 4 skeins of yarn in 4 different colors that match the bedding set I've registered for. Brown, light yellow, mauve pink, and white. It matches this bedding: http://www.target.com/Dwell-Studio-Target-Bedding-Collection/dp/B001LK9OOG/sr=1-1/qid=1249074596/ref=sr_1_1/186-0751089-3253903?ie=UTF8&search-alias=tgt-index&frombrowse=0&index=target&rh=k%3Adwell%20studio%20birds&page=1 I am intermediate in skill and can work fairly quickly I just don't know how much time I'll have and want it too look nice, not thrown together. Thanks for the advice.
What is the name of this crochet stitch? I watched a video on youtube where this lady demonstrated how to use single crochet in order to create double thickness. It was a beginner-level stitch, something about only going into the front or back loop, I can't remember. Anyone know the name of this stitch?
What am I doing wrong with my double crochet stitches? I'm pretty sure I have the basic stitch down. But when I do the second row, the sort of upraised rib side alternates sides from being on the front or the back, but in the pictures I look at it seems to be consistent. What am I doing wrong? I feel like its probably has to do with what loop of yard i'm working back into but on youtube tutorials they only show you how to do it on the chain stitch. Also I learned on youtube and I don't know anyone who can crochet or knit to help me. Also, please use layman's terms because I don't understand the abbreviations.
Can anyone tell me what the name of the crochet stitch I am doing? It is in a chain and kind of makes little squares. My friend taught me but I can't figure out how to do the turn around and I don't even know the name of the stitch. Everytime you complete the set of stitches it leaves a little square hole and they all line up on top of each other. I'm trying to do a blanket.
Can I Still Crochet Various Stitch Patterns if i have a larger Crochet Hook? see i've mistakenly ordered a larger 10mm crochet hook. Now cos its so thick that its makin me wondering if m limited to only few stitches,in other words would i still be able to do an afghan stitch, beanie stitch and many other stitches but using a thicker yarn? pls let me know as soon as. Need help with crochet stitches!? I'm making a dimensional stitch throw and I have a special stitch here called "Front zigzag" and a "Back zigzag". These are the instructions for the 3rd row: Ch 3, dc in next st, front zigzag(see Special stitches) across to last 2 sts, dc in each of last 2 sts, turn. (Front zigzag: Sk next 3 sts, dtr in next st, working behind dtr just made, dc in first sk st, dc in each of next 2 sk sts.) I need help understanding this part: working behind dtr just made, dc in first sk st, dc in each of next 2 sk sts. How do I work behind the dtr and which is the first sk st, and the next 2 sk sts? How do you crochet in rounds? I am trying to crochet a hat, and the directions say this: With MC, ch 2. Rnd 1. 8 hdc in second ch from hook. Join with sl st to first hdc in rnd. 8 hdc. How do you crochet 8 stitches when you only have 2 chains (I know that you have to join the stitches, but I can never do it right, so if you can, please explain that too.
What can i crochet with multi-colored yarn? You know, something that won't look patternless or all messy with colors. The yarn is from Red Heart and is a mix of pink, dark brown, and tan colors. It also needs to be something easy that can only be done with single and double crochet stitches (my sister will be doing it and she's 12. she only knows hows to single stitch but I'm gonna teach her doubles).
How would you crochet a blanket? I'm a beginner who only knows how to make scarfs with the single crochet stitch. I found some really good yarn and I want to make a blanket, however, I think single crochet would take a long time and a lot of yarn. Is there a simpler way? What stitch could and I learn and could you explain?
Why does my double crochet keep increasing at one end? I am doing a basic double crochet stitch for a blanket but one side of the blanket keeps increasing. The other side seems to be staying the same but why does the other end continue to increase or decrease? What am I doing wrong?
Is crossed stitch the same as slip stitch in crochet? I got a German Crochet (Filet) Magazine and I am trying to translate it because I love this one doily in it. I'm pretty much done but I tranlated Kettmasche into crossed stitch. The symbol is like a little rainbow or an upside down u. I'm confused though, does cross stitch mean slip stitch? Thanks in advance for help.
How do I crochet this stitch- "Fpdc, sc"? I am crocheting a pair of chrildens slippers and have come across this stitch and it doesn't show or explain the Fpdc, sc stitch. I do know that sc= single crochet. Fellow crafters and crochet'ers please help! Thank you!
Knitting and crocheting stitches and such? I have been trying to learn to knit sice x-mas 05 and have been pretty unsucessful. Does anyone know any books, websites or anything that would help me? I would love anything you can bring up to me. Then, I've been crocheting since maybe 3rd-4th grade, but i haven't gone more advance then a scarf. I don't know any other stitch other then the casting on stitch and that's it. I would love to get a lottle more creative, and go more advance but I haven't found anything. Any books, websites, your own story anything? Thank so much for any answers!
How often do you put the extra stitch in when you crochet a hat? I used to know how to crochet hats, but forgot since I stopped for awhile. Some one recently asked me to make a hat for them and they said they would pay me. All they want is a hat that will fit a large head and that is really simple. How do I make this. I always get confused on how often the extra stitch comes in to make the curve of the hat. I use a 1/9-5.50mm hook, standard yarn, and I do tight stitches.
I can crochet but what stitch am I doing? It's pretty explanatory. I can crochet and do all kinds of different stitches and weird clusters but I have no clue the names for it. How can I learn if I'm doing a double chain thinger and stuff?
How to double stitch crochet? ? I know how to make the double stitch itself, what i am having trouble with is starting the next row. Can someone just give me basic instructions? If i start my crochet with 15 stitches.. What do i do next?
Are knitting, cross stitch, crochet and similar needlework forgotten? I was just wondering how many people are still doing any of them. Especially younger generations. Personally I love crochet and I am doing it since I was 10,11. It relaxes me and I always have some ready for those people that I realy appreciate and want to give a special present. I'm a mother,wife,3rd level student, have friends but I always find time to do it(usually when watching TV).
I am looking for an easy way to crochet a scarf...? I bought this kit with really confusing instructions and some bad yarn. (its this fuzzy stuff that makes it almost impossible to see what i am doing). I have mastered the chain stitch but my chains come out really small so I can not insert my hook into them for a double crochet stitch. Is there a way I could make a scarf with out using the double stitch? or what is an easier way to learn the double stitch?
As a crochet expert, have you ever taught or practiced to teach or instruct a student over the phone? How - to make a slip knot, chain, slip stitch, single crochet, half double, double or triple, or how to turn rows, or how to join rounds. I have practiced to do this alot, but done this very little. Practice keep skills alert. I am sure some of us live in areas where the interest is great, i am not in that area.
How do I increase using a shell stitch in crochet? I want to try a diagonal afghan using shells, but I've never tried increasing/decreasing using shells and I can't seem to find instructions for it. Can anyone tell me what to do or suggest a website with a pattern that uses shell increases? Thanks!
How does one read/complete crochet directions? I have a basic chain down, and I'm alright with single chains, etc, but it seems I just can't understand the instructions. When it says ch2, 6 sc in 2nd chain from hook.. does it mean I crochet 8 ch stitches, the go back through them, and make 6 of them into sc stitches? I may not entirely have the concept down. Personal help, and not just a link would be greatly appreciated. Thank you, Sara. :D That helped a lot

How do I attach some vintage crochet edging to a pillowcase that has the little holes in the edge? HELP!? I removed this edging from an old pair of pillowcases my mom had embroidered when the old cases became unusable. I would like to reuse the edging. I have embroidered a new pair of cases that have the holes near the edge with a raw edge below that. Can I just slip stitch the crochet edging into the holes in the case with white embroidery floss or even plain white thread? What do I do about the raw edge? I appreciate any help with this, and since I am "craft-challenged," the simpler the better! Thanks!
What does it mean to "single crochet 2 stitches?"? Rnd 3: sc 1 round even. (8 sc) Rnd 4: sc 2 stitches together around. (4 sc) Crochet hole closed with as many sl st as needed. Ch 6 and then attach bobble to top of hat by making a circle of 5 slip stitches around the top. Fasten off.
I am looking for directions on how to create a daisy stitch by way of crochet.? I am trying to create a crochet baby ensemble using a daisy stich pattern and the explanation that I have at this time on how to create the stitch seems overly confusing. I consider myself to be an intermediate crocheter but the directions I have are confusing and not exactly easy to grasp. If anyone knows of an easier and less complicatied explanation please let me know. I will be greatly appreciative!
