Circular knitting needles - how to neaten up the cable? I've been knitting on circular needles for a few years, mainly store-bought ones, but I recently brought back my grandmother's old equipment, including a couple dozen circulars. The problem with them is the fact that the cables are very stiff, and curled in eclectic ways, making knitting on them an absolute nightmare. Is there any way I can neaten them up, straighten out the curls? I've tried soaking them in warm water already, didn't do much of a difference, sadly.
Do you have to use the size knitting needles it says? I've just purchased a big ball wool because I liked the colour to make a scarf with. It's "Jarol New Arrival - Double Knitting Baby Randoms." It says a 10cm x 10cm would be 22sts on 30 rows on 4mm (UK Size 8) Needles.

Why does the paint only wear off of one of my knitting needles? I have several pairs of metal knitting needles that are starting to look a bit worn. Will it make a big difference to use slightly bigger or smaller knitting needles? I was in the midst of knitting a doll using 3.25mm DPNs. Could knitting needles be counted as a weapon in school? So I've been knitting a lot recently and since I get all my homework done at home I have nothing to do during my study halls. I've checked out my school handbook and it says nothing about knitting needles in particular, but the study hall teacher I have is really strict about school rules. I'm using U.S. size 7 circular needles and the link that I am following (http://www.knitting-and.com/knitting/patterns/hats/london-beanie.htm) says to join the stitches together. I don't know what to do. Help! Thanks! :)

Are knitting needles allowed on flights from the US to Japan? I know that you can bring knitting needles on domestic flights in the US, but I wanted to know if they are allowed on international flights, especially from the US to Japan. Thanks in advance! Note: Please do not say they are not just because they sound dangerous, they are allowed on planes in the US! What size knitting needles should I use? I am knitting a scarf. I don't remember what size the yarn is, but it's like, normal I guess? I am making a scarf that goes row1- knit, row2- purl, row3- knit, row4- knit, and repeat. The pattern said to cast on 24 stitches (or whatever the things you cast on are called). Is there a way to make my plastic knitting needles less slippery? I'm knitting a scarf with mohair on size 13s, and I've been dropping stitches. It's driving me crazy that the stitches are sliding all over the place. My gauge/tension is correct, so it's not that the sts are too loose on the needle. Some stitches just slip off the LH needle along with the st I intended to knit as I'm knitting.
Can I take bamboo knitting needles thru airport security? Getting ready for an airline trip. It surely would be nice to be able to work on that top I'm knitting during the plane ride. I knit with bamboo (not metal) needles.. Does that matter? Are knitting needles allowed at all? seems to me if ball point pens and pencils are allowed the knitting needles would be too. BTW they are short and the circular type. (two bamboo sticks like a lead pencil connected by a thin plastic thread) Thanks Thegypsy

My knitting needles are too small for my pattern. What can I do? My boyfriend asked me to knit an afghan for him like one that I made a few years ago for myself. I had to buy new needles and accidentally bought US 19 instead of US 35. Can I still use these smaller needles for my afghan? My pattern calls for 58 stitches casted on (finished size approx. 40 inches wide). Do I need to cast on more stitches to compensate? Thanks!

What can I use (that I could find around my house) to make knitting needles (or just to knit with)? And I have lots and lots of junk around my house (skewers, chopsticks they give out in restaurants, duct tape, pins, etc.) but as I haven't had much knitting experience before, how can I actually turn one of these things (or something else, I really do have a lot of junk) into functional knitting needles? (I've tried skewers by themselves but they're too thin, and chopsticks don't have points but they seem promising.) Any ideas?

The next step says to switch to a smaller size needle. I've never run across this before and don't really understand what it wants me to do. Help!
